Gold Division Championship

Centennial 4, Burnsville/Apple Valley 3 (OT)

Centennial, Squirtacular Gold Division champions

The Burnsville/Apple Valley Firehawks learned on Sunday that you're never too young to experience heartbreak.

Despite a more-than-valiant effort late in regulation to erase a two-goal deficit and force overtime, the Firehawks fell to Centennial in the Squirtacular's Gold Division championship game.

The Firehawks took the game's first lead on a goal by Nico Francis, which gave B/AV a 1-0 advantage that was erased near the end of the first period by Centennial's Connor Kerfeld.

A goal by Logan Olson pushed the Centennial lead to 2-1 after two periods, and Olson's second score extended the Cougar lead to 3-1 with just 7:30 to play in the third stanza.

With less than four minutes to go in regulation and victory in sight, Burnsville/Apple Valley's Dalton Schwarze embarked on his Mission to Overtime, scoring with 3:10 to play to pull the Firehawks within one. Schwarze scored again with 1:39 left in regulation to send the game into extra innings.

The magic ended there for the Firehawks, as the Gold Division's Tournament MVP Connor Kerfeld of Centennial notched his second goal of the contest late in overtime to capture the title.

Centennial celebrates after Connor Kervold's overtime game-winner on Sunday against Burnsville/Apple Valley.
