Elk River/Zimmerman at Rogers, Jan. 28 (7:00 PM)

Carly Humphrey, Elk River/Zimmerman

I will call this the 'Battle of the Highway 101 corridor' as these two ISD 728 schools clash for a chance at the regular-season series sweep for No. 9-AA Rogers after defeating Elk River/Zimmerman 4-3 earlier in the month.

The Elks are coming off a 5-3 loss against No. 3-AA Minnetonka. Elk River is led at forward by a pair of seniors in Penn State commit Maddy Christian (19-12-31) and Claire Flahaven (7-7-14). Talented freshman Abby Hansberger (8-12-20) adds another scoring dimension for the Elks.

On defense, sophomore Carly Humphrey (10-6-16) and senior and Franklin Pierce commit Kylie Huseth (0-7-7) are a well-balanced duo that moves the puck and defends well.

In the crease, senior goaltender Ashley Hess (.904 save percentage) has handled the majority of starts this season for the Elks.

Rogers is building on the momentum of a 6-0 win over Buffalo. The Royals' attack is led by seniors Avery Farrell (13-14-27) and Paige Vreeman (20-9-19), as well as juniors McKenna Sandberg (13-17-30), Ava Johansson (10-10-20), and sophomore Avery Achterkirch (11-11-22). Farrell is committed to Franklin Pierce, while Vreeman has pledged to Long Island University.

On defense, sophomore Justyce Ohlgren (5-9-14) and freshman Sydney Bailey (1-12-13) keep Rogers' on the attack by moving the puck quickly to their talented group of forwards.

Between the pipes, the Royals split appearances between juniors Lauren Larson (1.05 goals-against-average) and Alexa Backmann (.952 save percentage) this season.
