Class AA

Lauren Zawoyski's overtime goal against No. 3-2A Minnetonka last week helped the Hornets to their sixth consecutive 20-win season.

1. Andover (22-0)

Three games, three wins for the Huskies last week, as Andover defeated Centennial/Spring Lake Park, No. 1-1A Warroad, and No. 4-1A Proctor/Hermantown.

While Osseo/Park Center and No. 7-2A Wayzata, the teams left on the Andover regular-season schedule, are no slouches, an undefeated season is within the Huskies’ grasp.

2. Edina (21-2)

Like the Huskies, the Hornets picked up three wins last week, rolling past a gauntlet of No. 7-2A Wayzata, No. 3-2A Minnetonka, and No. 4-2A Holy Family.

The wins last week cemented Edina reaching the 20-win threshold, marking the sixth consecutive regular season in which the Hornets have won 20 or more games.

3. Minnetonka (18-5)

A 3-1 loss against Edina was sandwiched between wins over Farmington and Blaine last week for the Skippers.

Minnetonka will close out the regular season with games against Lake Conference rivals North Wright County and No. 7-2A Wayzata.

4. Holy Family (18-4-1)

The Fire won two of three last week, with the lone defeat coming at the hands of No. 2-2A Edina in overtime.

The loss to the Hornets ended a six-game winning streak, and was the second time the Fire had fallen against the Hornets.

The Fire will conclude the regular season with games against Delano/Rockford and Stillwater on Friday and Saturday.

5. Benilde-St. Margaret’s (15-5-1)

Last week, the Red Knights made quick work of a pair of Metro West Conference opponents topping Bloomington Jefferson 7-0 and Chaska/Chanhassen 4-1. With the victories, the Red Knights have now won 12 of their last 13 games, and will take on Breck and Orono this week.

6. Maple Grove (15-5-2)

In its only game last week, Maple Grove escaped a pesky Armstrong/Cooper squad with a 3-2 win last Tuesday. The Crimson has won five straight games heading into its regular-season finale contests against Anoka, Hutchinson, and Hill-Murray.

7. Wayzata (15-7-1)

The Trojans split their two games last week, falling to No. 2-2A Edina and beating Lake Conference rival Eden Prairie. Interestingly, four of the Trojans’ seven losses on the season have come when the opposition has scored three goals.

8. Rogers (17-4-2)

The Royals extended their winning streak to six games last week, picking up wins over Anoka and Elk River/Zimmerman. 19 wins are in sight for the Royals, but Armstrong/Cooper and Champlin Park/Coon Rapids stand in the way this week.

9. Lakeville South (21-2)

The Cougars bounced back from their loss against Burnsville with wins over Apple Valley and Lakeville North last week. With games against Shakopee and Eastview on the horizon for this week, the Cougars will look to maintain their place in the thick of the South Suburban Conference race.

10. Burnsville (18-4-1)

Make it 14 straight wins for the Blaze, earning two one-goal victories over Shakopee (3-2) and Rosemount (4-3) over the past week. The Blaze will conclude the regular season by hosting Farmington and Eastview this coming Thursday and Saturday.

Class A

Warroad made another trip to the metro last week, losing to No. 1-2A Andover 3-1 and shutting out Class 2A Eastview 6-0.

1. Warroad (18-3-1)

Always up for anything, the Warriors played three games in three days last week, winning twice and losing once.

The Warriors picked up wins over Eastview and Chisago Lakes, while the loss came on the road against No. 1-2A Andover.

2. Orono (19-2)

The Spartans move to 19-2 after a 5-0 shutout win over Minneapolis and a closer-than-expected 2-1 overtime victory over New Prague. The win over the Trojans cannot be mentioned without a shoutout to New Prague goaltender Mariah Marek, who made 49 saves on 51 shots.

The Spartans are slated to play four games in the next six days to close out the regular season, with No. 5-2A Benilde-St. Margaret’s the marquee matchup of the four contests.

3. Simley (18-4-2)

Two more wins move the Spartans’ to 18 victories on the season, as Simley outscored Two Rivers/St. Paul and Mahtomedi by a combined 15-2.

The Spartans are 10-0-1 in their last 11 games, and will face Apple Valley in the regular-season finale this week.

4. Proctor/Hermantown (15-7-1)

The Mirage won two of three last week, downing Moose Lake Area and Duluth while taking a 4-2 loss against No. 1-2A Andover.

Area games Duluth Marshall and Superior (Wis.) will close out the regular season for the defending Class 1A state champions.

5. Holy Angels (19-4-1)

The Stars have won four straight heading into the final week of the regular season, and are on the cusp of a 20-win campaign. The Stars will face Waconia in the last game of the regular season, a team they trounced 9-0 on Jan. 8.
