Class AA (Final)

Sloane Matthews' hat trick helped Wayzata upset Minnetonka 6-3 over the weekend.

1. Andover (24-0)

The Huskies topped Osseo/Park Center 7-0 and Wayzata 6-1 to close out the regular season undefeated, and are the de facto favorites for the Class AA state title.

2. Edina (23-2)

Wins over Lake Conference rivals Eden Prairie and North Wright County landed the Hornets yet another league championship. The Hornets have played several of the state’s top teams since their Hockey Day Minnesota loss to No. 1-AA Andover, and have emerged victorious in their last five games.

3. Holy Family (20-4-1)

With Minnetonka’s loss to Wayzata, the Fire inch ahead of the Skippers in the final rankings. The Fire and the Skippers seem destined to meet in this year’s Section 2AA final as they did last season, and are clearly the section’s top two teams.

4. Benilde-St. Margaret’s (18-5-1)

The Red Knights move to fourth after Minnetonka’s loss and picking up three wins of their own since the last batch of rankings. The Red Knights will end the regular season in an all-Catholic battle with Hill-Murray on Tuesday.

5. Minnetonka (19-6)

A four-game Lake Conference slate to end the regular season turned into a 2-2 split for the Skippers, as a 6-3 loss to Wayzata on Saturday spoiled the Skippers’ attempt at 20 wins. Despite the loss, the Skippers will enter the Section 2AA playoffs as the top seed.

6. Wayzata (16-8-1)

A 6-1 loss to Andover was quickly forgotten after the Trojans upset Lake Conference rival Minnetonka on Saturday. The Trojans parlayed that win over the Skippers into the No. 2 seed in Section 6AA, where they’ll likely face third-seeded and fourth-ranked Benilde-St. Margaret’s in the semifinals.

7. Rogers (19-4-2)

The Royals finished the regular season on an eight-game winning streak, earning a 7-4 win over Armstrong/Cooper and a 6-4 victory over Champlin Park/Coon Rapids to end the regular-season slate.

While the Section 5AA bracket has not been released yet, the Royals should secure one of the top-two seeds.

8. Maple Grove (17-6-2)

A loss to Hill-Murray brought the Crimson’s seven-game winning streak to an end on Saturday, as the Pioneers held on for a 3-2 win. Like Rogers, Maple Grove will be one of the top seeds in Section 5AA, and YHH would guess the Crimson will end up as No. 1, despite the loss to the Pioneers.

9. Lakeville South (23-2)

The Cougars ended the regular season on a high note with four straight wins, though the last two should not have been as close as they were. The Cougars needed overtime to oust Eatsview and then took another nailbiter in a 2-1 win over Shakopee.

Close games aside, Lakeville South is the top seed in Section 1AA, and will face eighth-seeded Rochester Century/John Marshall in the first round on Wednesday.

10. Hill-Murray (16-8)

The Pioneers still have one regular-season game to go, hosting No. 4-AA Benilde-St. Margaret’s on Tuesday. Should the Pioneers win that one, it would mark the second straight victory over a top-six team, giving Hill-Murray a little momentum before section play.

The Pioneers are the No. 3 seed in Section 4AA, and will face No. 6 seed Woodbury on Feb. 12.

Grace Zhan stopped 18 of 20 shots as Hill-Murray edged Maple Grove to move into the rankings at No. 10.

Class A (Final)

Ella Sanders and her Simley Spartans hold the No. 1 seed in Section 4A.

1. Warroad (20-3-1)

The Warriors have one regular-season game to play, in which they will host rival Roseau at The Gardens on Monday.

The clear No. 1 in Section 8A, Warroad may already be collectively packing its bags for St. Paul yet again.

2. Orono (22-3)

The Spartans closed out the regular season, winning 11 of their last 12 games, with the lone loss in that span coming against No. 4-AA Benilde-St. Margaret’s.

Seeded first in Section 2A, the Spartans will have stiff postseason competition, with No. 5-A Holy Angels and previously ranked Mound Westonka lurking in the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds.

3. Simley (18-4-3)

Counting ties, the Spartans are unbeaten in their last 12 games, concluding the regular season with a 3-3 tie against Apple Valley.

The Spartans will receive a bye in the first round of Section 4A play as the section’s top seed, but the likely section final match would include Simley and South St. Paul.

4. Proctor/Hermantown (17-7-1)

The defending state champions enter the postseason on a three-game winning streak, edging area rivals Duluth Marshall 2-1 and Superior 6-0.

The Mirage may get another bout with the Hilltoppers if the Section 7A seeds play out as they appear on paper, with the Mirage holding the top seed and the ‘Toppers being seeded second.

5. Holy Angels (20-4-1)

The Stars hit the 20-win mark in a 12-0 win over Waconia on the last day of the regular season. The Stars will take a five-game winning streak into the playoffs, where they will be the No. 2 seed in Section 5A.
