BAA: Osseo-Maple Grove > Chaska-Chan (5-0)

Osseo-Maple Grove, 2019 Bantam AA State Tournament champions.

In a rematch of the 2017 Peewee AA state championship game, Osseo-Maple Grove exacted revenge against Chaska-Chanhassen, rattling off five goals in a 5-0 win to erase the memory of falling in overtime to the Stormhawks two years ago.

The Leafbirds scored four of their five goals in the second period, with four different players marking the scoresheet in Josh Giuliani, Landen Gunderson, Aaron Tollas, and Chayton Fischer. Fischer would add his second goal of the game on an empty Chaska-Chanhassen net in the third period to seal the win for the Leafbirds.

With three sparkling wins this weekend, including a 22-save shutout in the title game, Osseo-Maple Grove goaltender Toby Hopp was selected as Most Valuable Player. Hope posted two shutouts in those three wins and allowed just one goal over that span.

BAN A: Warroad > Osseo-Maple Grove (2-1 OT)

Warroad, 2019 Bantam A state champions.

In Sunday's Bantam A State Tournament championship game, Warroad did what it does best; be Warroad.

The northland heroes, with 11 skaters, edged Osseo-Maple Grove in the final, with Carson Reed scoring the game-winning goal late in overtime on a blistering shot from the point, sending the fans who made the trek into a frenzy.

Osseo-Maple Grove took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Ryan Keiper in the second period after peppering Warroad goaltender Hampton Slukynsky throughout the first frame, and the Leafbirds seemed to have the game in control. However, Warroad's Jayson Shaugabay backhanded a loose puck past Jack Roach to tie the game at 1-1 late in the second, and firmly shifted momentum to Warroad's side.

With a timeout called early in overtime, Warroad rested its top unit, banking on its ability to find whatever could be left in the tank for the game's penultimate period. The gamble proved profitable as Reed scored less than four minutes into the extra session.

With four goals and five points in three games, including scoring the goal that won Warroad the state title, Carson Reed was selected as the Bantam A State Tournament's Most Valuable Player.

PWAA: Eden Prairie > Woodbury (2-1)

Eden Prairie- PWAA State Champs

Eden Prairie played Chaska Chanhassen, Edina and Woodbury eight times prior to the state tournament and lost seven times by a total score of 36-12. They lost to CC four times in the regular season and lost to Woodbury in their home tournament (6-2) and again in the South Region finals (6-1). Not even the most optimistic hockey fan could foresee  Eden Prairie knocking off  three number-one seeds in three consecutive days this past weekend.

EP coach Cory Peterson and his band of brothers knew their odds were slim, but they had a plan. Play fast, play fearless and when all else fails get unbelievable goaltending. That is what they did. They skated with Chaska Chan on Friday and when they lost a lead late, they showed no fear and beat the top team in the state in OT. The next day, they started fast and got another great performance from Isaiah Paulnock beating their biggest rival Edina Saturday.

On Sunday, they put it all together - holding the high powered Predators to only one goal while getting a crucial short-handed goal from Teddy Townsend early in the third period and hung on win the state title 2-1 in Stillwater.

Isaiah Paulnock stopped 30+ shots three times, beat three number one seeds in three days and was chosen tourney MVP.  The 3 Musketeers - Connor Crowley, Marcus Fechko and Teddy Townsend - accounted for nine of the EP 10 goals over the weekend.
