MN Meltdown: Friday Recap

Play begins in earnest across the metro for 2005-2010 Boys Invite Divisions.

Through two games, MAP Blue Army is tied for the lead in the 2005 Invite Division with the '06 Minnesota Blades, with each team checking in with a 1-0-1 record. Blue Army snuck past the Finlandia Hockey Club 2-1 on Friday, with Zach Howard scoring the game-winning goal with just 18 seconds remaining in regulation. The Blades thumped El Diablos 8-2 on Friday behind a four-goal third period. Blue Army and the Blades tied 1-1 on Thursday. 

The Minnesota Lakers White tied the California Patriots Shamrocks 3-3 in the 2006 Invite Division, a back-and-forth battle with solid play by both teams. The Colorado Kodiaks skated past the Fire Hockey Club 6-2 in the '06 Invite Division finale of the day, taking over first place in the standings with a 1-0 record. 

MPH Hockey Black and the Colorado Kodiaks are tied atop the 2007 Invite Division with 1-0 records. MPH Hockey Black defeated Tommy Chicago Elite 8-1 and the Kodiaks thumping the Minnesota Icemen Blue 6-1. Rapid Athlete Development and Miracle Gold toed 3-3 on Friday night.

In the 2008 Invite Division, Breakaway Red and MPH Hockey Black are on top, with both teams sporting identical 2-0 records after two days of competition. Breakaway Red blanked the Colorado Kodiaks 7-0 and edged the Minnesota Lakers 2-1 on Friday, while MPH Hockey Black scored a 5-1 win over the MAP Blue Army Selects on Thursday and followed that win with a 4-1 victory over Miracle Gold. 

The California Patriots and the Finlandia Hockey Club lead the 2009 Invite Division. The Patriots shut out Miracle Gold 7-0, while FHC trounced the Minnesota Blades 9-3. In the 2010 Invite Division, Rapid Athlete Development and Euro American Red lead the pack. RAD shut out MAP Blue Army 6-0, and EAR edged the Minnesota Blades 3-2. The two leaders in the clubhouse will meet on Saturday to likely decide who takes over the top spot in the division entering Sunday.
