Sunday's Slate Concludes 2019 Meltdown

Gabe Perron lead MPH with two early goals Sunday in their 5-1 win over Colorado.

The 2006 Minnesota Blades made an excellent case for playing up this weekend, going 4-0-1 en route to a 3-0 win over Finlandia Hockey Club in Sunday's title game. Taylor Berg, Will Skahan, and Tanner Henricks all scored one goal each in the penalty-filled affair, with goaltender Caleb Heil earning the shutout between the pipes. For his sparkling effort, Heil was named championship game Most Valuable Player.

Despite a disappointing ending to the 2006 Invite Division final, the California Shamrocks (Patriots) will catch their flights home with an extra ounce of metal around their necks as tournaments champions. The Shamrocks scored the first three goals of the game and took a 4-1 lead into the late stages of the second stanza. Undaunted, Minnesota Lakers White scored twice to close the second period, pulling within one goal for the start of the third. Championship game Most Valuable Player Logan Perez stalled the Lakers' comeback attempt with impressive play in the crease for the Shamrocks, as the west-coasters emerged with a 4-3 win.

Gabe Perron scored twice, and Paul Anderson added a goal and assist as '07 MPH Hockey downed the Colorado Kodiaks 5-1 in the 2007 Invite Division championship. MPH Hockey Black allowed just three goals in five tournament wins over the weekend.

Down 4-3 entering the third period, '08 Breakaway Red erupted for three scores in the final frame, scoring a 6-4 win over MPH Hockey Black in Sunday's title game. Liam Schultz tallied a hat-trick in the win for Breakaway Red, with Blake Kennedy chipping in two goals. Daniel Browning also scored a goal for Breakaway Red. The win avenged a previous loss for Breakaway Red, which fell to MPH Hockey Black 4-2 on Saturday.

The California Patriots conclude their romp through the 2009 Invite Division with a 10-3 win over the Finlandia Hockey Club on Sunday, marking the fifth time in five games that the squad from the west coast put its opponent into running time. Sunday was the first time the Patriots and FHC had met during the Meltdown.

After routing the 2011 Minnesota Blades by at least seven and posting double-digits, Rapid Athlete Development handed Blue Army a 4-1 loss thanks to a balanced scoring effort. Blake Romo and R.J. Thompson each recorded a goal and an assist in the win for RAD.  RAD got out to a 2-0 lead in the first period and seemed in control for most of the first half of the game, but Blue Army fought hard all 45 minutes and kept the west-coast team RAD very honest. Constant rushes by Hayden Wagner kept the pressure off the Blue Army defense and a pretty five-hole goal by Daniel Urick showed how good this team could be next week at The Big One.

Blake Romo had a lot to celebrate Sunday as RAD took he '10 title at Pagel.
