Ryan Andor of Team Black goes five-hole in Sunday afternoon's 2-1 shootout win over Team Royal.

Regular Season Runner-Up Claims Title

On May 4, Team Royal laid an 8-2 drubbing on Team Black during regular-season play of the Red and Black spring session. Team Royal scored the last six goals of that win, finishing the game with a resounding victory on its way to the No. 1 place in the standings by the end of the month.

Fast-forward to June 2, and there's an entirely new story to be told. Team Black edged Team Royal 2-1 in a shootout to earn the spring title, regrouping after losing a 1-0 lead and finishing the job in the one-on-one portion.

Jonah Forshier put Team Black up 1-0 early in the first half, giving the diminutive forward from Rosemount High School his 18th goal of the season. A penalty-parade proceeded for the bulk of the game, with both teams taking multiple trips to the box for various infractions. Team Royal's Jeremiah Konkel tied the game in the second half, executing a beautiful rush through the neutral and offensive zones before going to his backhand for the game-tying tally. Konkel, who skates for Southwest Christian during the high school season, finished as one of the league's leading scorers with 29 total points during the regular season.

With nothing decided in the final minutes of the play, the game advanced to its shootout finale. Ryan Andor scored the lone goal of the shootout for Team Black, and fellow Edina Hornet Bryce Hess shut the door to save the win.

Jeremiah Konkel slips the puck past Team Black's Bryce Hess to tie Sunday's eventual loss at 1-1.
