Tournament Enters 29th Year In Edmonton

On June 21st, Alex Turcotte, Trevor Zegras, and Cole Caufield were selected in the first 15 picks of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. The trio is also part of another top-15 group; Brick Invitational all-time leading scorers.

Before Turcotte, Zegras, and Caufield dressed in the red, white and blue of the U.S. National Development Program, they were members of the Brick Invitational, with Caufield and Turcotte each playing in the tournament for the Chicago Jr. Blackhawks and Zegras skating for the Connecticut Yankees. Caufield is tied as the tournament’s all-time leading scorer with nine goals and 18 total points in six games.

Just shy of a decade later, the three game-breakers went from potting goals on the West Edmonton Mall ice to walking across a stage after hearing their name called by their new NHL clubs.

With each passing year, the list of NHLers who skated in the Brick grows, as players who once starred on the tournament’s live-streams now thrive under the game’s brightest lights. From 1990 to 2019, the Brick experience has become synonymous with summertime glory, and this year promises to be no different.
