Overtime Rules The Day In Edmonton

In between wins by six and seven goals, there were three games decided in extra sessions on Tuesday, as Team Minnesota, the Boston Junior Bruins, and Team Brick Alberta all found glory in the second overtime of their respective wins.

Jaakko Wysick played the hero for Minnesota in its win over Team Pennsylvania, netting his second goal of the game as the game-winner on a nifty backhand shot off a toe-drag. Joseph Covelluzzi’s second goal lifted the Junior Bruins to their victory over Team Quebec for their second win in as many games. The Junior Bruins are 2-0 entering Wednesday’s game against Team Pennsylvania.

In the final match of the day, Landon Dupont of Team Brick Alberta reenacted his heroics from day one, scoring in the second overtime with just 28 seconds left ton the clock. Without Dupont’s goal, Team Brick Alberta and Toronto Pro Hockey would have entered the always-volatile shootout phase of the contest.

On top of the leaderboard in the Styles Conference after two days are the Connecticut Jr. Rangers, who have posted a spotless 3-0 record after blanking the B.C. Jr. Canucks 3-0 on Wednesday. Jr. Rangers’ forward Caiden Pellegrino is tied with Chicago Jr. Blackhawks’ forward Colin Varady for the tournament lead in scoring with seven total points. Varady’s Jr. Blackhawks are knotted with the Toronto Bulldogs for second in the Styles Conference with six points, albeit having played one more game than the Bulldogs.

The aforementioned Team Brick Alberta is tied for first in the Wigston Conference with Toronto Pro Hockey with seven total points because its win over conference foe Pro Hockey and Monday’s win over Team Quebec both came in overtime. Toronto Pro Hockey holds the best goal differential spread in the tournament, with 18 goals for and just five against for a +13 differential.

Just outside the top two spots are the Boston Junior Bruins and Team Quebec with five points each. Both of Team Quebec’s losses so far this week have come in overtime.

Caiden Pellegrino ranks as one of the tournament's leading scorers with seven total points through two days.
