Styles Conference Standings Provide Drama

Just two teams in the entire field remain unbeaten through three days of competition in Edmonton, with the Wigston Conference’s Connecticut Jr. Rangers scooping up their fourth win in four games and Team Brick Alberta notching its fourth win as well.

The Jr. Rangers thumped the defending champion Toronto Bulldogs 6-2 in the final match of the morning session, giving the Bulldogs their first loss at the Brick in two years. The Jr. Rangers scores four times in the third period to put away the Bulldogs, paced by a goal and two assists from Rocco Pelosi. Team Brick Alberta’s fourth win came after soundly beating Team Minnesota 5-2 behind a three-assist, four-point performance by Landon Dupont.

Elsewhere in the Wigston Conference, the Chicago Jr. Blackhawks hold second place with a record of 3-1 and nine points, followed closely by the Toronto Bulldogs and the Western Selects, which picked up two wins on Wednesday. The Bulldogs and the Western Selects each have six total points in the standings. The Jr. Blackhawks and the Western Selects will battle on Thursday at 3:50 p.m. in a game that could prove pivotal when it comes to a playoff spot.

Team Brick Alberta heads the Styles Conference entering the fourth day of the tournament, just ahead of Toronto Pro Hockey in the standings. Toronto Pro Hockey needed extra time to defeat Team Quebec to keep pace with Team Brick Alberta, with Xavier Rowe scoring the game-winning goal late in the second extra session. Tyler Lee tied the game for Toronto Pro Hockey with under one minute to play in regulation to force overtime.

Following Toronto Pro Hockey in the standings is a crowded three-way tie for third in the conference. The Boston Junior Bruins, Team Pennsylvania, and Team Quebec all have six total points, with each team achieving that number in different ways. The Jr. Bruins have two wins in regulation and one loss in overtime, Team Pennsylvania has two regulation wins and one loss in regulation and one loss in overtime. Finally, Team Quebec has one win in regulation to go with three losses in overtime, picking up a single point in each of those defeats.

Simplicity, thy name is not Styles.

Colin Varady of the Chicago Jr. Blackhawks trails only Rocco Pelosi in overall scoring with eight points.
