Team Brick, Connecticut Move On To Finals

For just the second time since 2007, the Brick Invitational championship will not feature a team from Toronto, despite both Toronto teams advancing to the semifinals out of the first round on Saturday morning.

The Toronto Bulldogs pulled off a quasi-miracle in the first game of the morning, clawing their way back to a 3-3 during the third period after going down 3-1 to Team Minnesota. After a controversial no-goal call during overtime against Team Minnesota, Toronto Bulldogs forward Kingston Harris ripped a shot into the upper-right part of the Team Minnesota net to send the Bulldogs to the semifinals.

Unfortunately for the defending champions, the Team Brick Alberta buzzsaw was waiting for them in the next round, and with a capacity crowd behind it, Team Brick trounced the Bulldogs 4-1. Antonio Cazac led the scoring charge with two goals for Team Brick Alberta, while Leif Oaten stopped 14 of 15 shots.

Like its Toronto-area brethren, Toronto Pro Hockey ran into trouble during the semifinal round, falling to the seemingly unstoppable Connecticut Jr. Rangers, also by a score of 4-1. Kaden McGregor was named First Star of the game for the Jr. Ranger after scoring two goals and handing out an assist in the win. Toronto Pro Hockey scored a 4-1 win over the Western Selects in the first round, allowing a goal in the first period and then scoring the next four of the second and third frames.

Team Brick Alberta and the Connecticut Jr. Rangers will meet at 12:30 P.M. (MDT) on Sunday to decide the 2019 Brick Invitational champion.
