Sharks Down Bruins While Kings Handle Bolts

A steamy night in West St. Paul doesn't exactly lend itself to a dynamic hockey game, and Tuesday night was no exception. Two teams, the Sharks and the Kings, emerged with a pair of less-than-stunning wins but victories nonetheless.

The Sharks took a 3-0 lead over the Bruins in the first half of Tuesday's game, maintaining a possession advantage throughout the opening frame. Rebounds were gobbled up by the Sharks, who turned even missed shots into slick passing plays and scoring chances. Gavin Hanson recorded the first goal of the game for the Sharks, followed by tallies from Jay Ellingson and Jimmy Clark. Carsen Musser stopped all nine shots he faced during the first half.

Bryce Laager potted the fourth goal of the contest for the Sharks, making a brilliant move into the offensive zone and then placing a perfect shot into the low corner of the net to push the lead to 4-0. Charlie Sandven scored from the point for the Bruins' lone goal of the evening. While playing both halves, Bruins' goaltender Louden McCoy stopped 20 of 24 shots.

A fast start by an opponent also foiled the Bolts' plans for a win, as the Kings racked up five goals in the first half en route to a 5-3 win. Team-leading scorer Gavyn Thoreson notched a pair of goals in the first half, one assisted by Riley Skuza and one unassisted. Luke Steffen and Luke Margeneau added first-half tallies for the Kings. Ty Henricks scored both goals for the Bolts in the first half, while Ashton Dahms pulled the Bolts within two at 5-3 late in the second stanza. The Kings have now won three consecutive contests.
