MN Hockey Announces New President

Steve Oleheiser will be the organization's 24th President as Dave Margeneau steps down.

Margeneau's Nine-Year Tenure Ends

St. Paul, MN – September 3, 2019 – Minnesota Hockey is pleased to announce Steven Oleheiser of Grand Rapids, Minn. has begun his role as President of Minnesota Hockey, effective on September 1. Oleheiser is the 24th president in the history of Minnesota Hockey, dating back to the organization’s inception in 1947. Oleheiser was elected to theposition by the Minnesota Hockey Board of Directors at the Annual Meeting in April. He takes over the role from Dave Margenau, who did not seek re-election after serving three terms and nine years as the leader of the organization. Margenau will serve in the capacity of Immediate Past President, which is a voting position on the Board of Directors.

Oleheiser has spent the past 12 years serving on the Minnesota Hockey board as the Director of District 12. During that time, he held several roles on Minnesota Hockey committees including chair of the District Director committee, chair of the Grievance committee, member of the Executive committee, member of the Membership Development committee, member of the Finance/Budget committee and member of the Administrative Management committee. Oleheiser has also represented Minnesota as a member of the USA Hockey Board of Directors since 2011.

“I am honored and excited to be the next President of Minnesota Hockey,” said Oleheiser. “I am very passionateabout this organization, and the community based model of hockey we have here in Minnesota. It provides for the most opportunities for all of our players, and my focus will be on creating more opportunities to grow the game, increasing the diversity of our membership and to keep kids in the game for as long as possible. I want to thank Dave Margenau for his remarkable service and leadership as President of Minnesota Hockey. Dave will leave a lasting legacy of unprecedented success and I look forward to working very closely with him to enhance MinnesotaHockey.”

Margenau took over the presidency in 2010, following the eight year term of Dennis Green. During his term, Margenau was instrumental in increasing the number of hockey players to record levels, including 57,923 total players during the 2018-19 season, and 18,839 8 & Under players during the 2017-18 season. He also put an emphasis on more player development opportunities, including the addition of the Minnesota Hockey CCM High Performance Tier 1 Fall Leagues and High Performance Spring 14 Festivals, the expansion of Minnesota Hockey Region and State Tournaments and the introduction of the Hockey Director Conference and Hockey Director Network. He also oversaw the Association Leader Excellence Conference and the Hockey Education Program.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to all of the board members of Minnesota Hockey, the staff members and thecountless volunteers across the state for all of their support over the last nine years,” said Margenau. “I also want tothank Dennis Green for serving honorably as President and Past President for the past 17 years. I am very excited for the future of Minnesota Hockey, and look forward to working closely with my good friend Steve Oleheiser as hecontinues to work on behalf of all the players, coaches, officials and parents across the state of Minnesota.”

Minnesota Hockey, a USA Hockey affiliate, is the governing body of youth hockey in Minnesota. With over 70,000 registered players and coaches, it is the largest state governing body for hockey in the United States.
