Moorhead Girls Minor celebrates after goaltender Nora Hannan stops the last Marshall shooter in Sunday's shootout win.

Girls Minor: Moorhead 4, Marshall 3 (SO)

Don't count your chickens before they hatch, and in this case, don't count your spuds until they're peeled.

Moorhead saw its 3-1 lead evaporate with under two minutes to play in Sunday's championship game against Marshall, as the Hilltoppers got goals from Payton Babolian and Mya Gunderson to force overtime. After overtime failed to yield a winner, the game moved on to a shootout, where Moorhead's Nora Hannan rejected both Marshall shots she faced.

Ella Rothe and Lorelai Nelson scored during the one-on-one session to clinch the victory for the Spuds.

Rothe also scored in regulation for the Spuds, as did Hannah Christenson and Julia Ostapeic. Stella Bertogliat scored the other goal for Marshall.

Lorelai Nelson scored in the shootout for the Spuds and dished out three assists over the weekend.

Boys Minor: Richfield 5, Ramsey 4 (OT)

A second overtime finish fallowed the Girls Minor final in the Boy Minor championship, as Richfield escaped Ramsey with a 5-4 win during five-on-five play.

The score was knotted at 2-2 after the first half, with Cooper Rannow and Daylin Cline gave Richfield a 2-0 lead early in the game. Ramsey's Keaton Jundt and Tate Hardacre evened the score to close out of the first frame.

Cole Cheeseman put Richfield ahead 3-2 in the second before two goals from Ramsey sent the game into a frenzy late in regulation. Ramsey's Zac Zimmerman tied the game at 3-3 and Hardacre scored what seemed to represent the game-winning goal with just 32 seconds remaining. Richfield would have other plans, however, as Gavin McNeil tied the game back up with nine ticks to play.

T.J. Hale tallied the game-winning goal off a beautiful backhand pass in the slot from A.J. Francisco before going top-shelf for the score. Ramsey's Cole Braunshausen was selected as Most Valuable Player after leading to the tournament in scoring with six goals and 11 total points.

Girls Major: Williams 5, Moorhead 3

Moorhead's bid to sweep the Girls Division trophies fell just short on Sunday afternoon, as Williams shorted a late Spud charge for a 5-3 win.

Williams scored three consecutive goals in the second half to pull away for the victory, paced by two goals and an assist in the second stanza from Sophie Stramel. Olivia Lowell and Kendall Hassler each scored once for Williams in the first half.

Ella Hornung kicked off the scoring for Moorhead with a goal less than a minute into the game. Williams answered with the Lowell and Hassler goals, which in turn were rebutted by Moorhead's Annika Fortin and LuLu Rucinski.

Moorhead was without leading scorer Mercury Bischoff due to an injury sustained against Williams in the previous game, but her outstanding performance before the injury earned her Most Valuable Player honors.

Boys Major: Marshall 6, Richfield 3

Marshall captured the Boys Major title in dominant fashion to put a bow on the 2019 Peewee Challenge, scoring three times in each half en route to a 6-3 win over Richfield.

Bennett Rutzick scored twice to lead the Marshall charge in the first half, with a goal from Junior Podein sandwiched between Rutzick's tallies. Henry Lechner scored the first goal of the half for Richfield before the Marshall barrage.

Tre Peck extended the Marshall lead to 4-1 early in the second half, a lead quickly built upon by a Michael Mathison goal to make the score 5-1. Running time ensued after a Tucker Johnson goal, but Richfield clawed its way back into the game with goals from Max Rider and Lechner's second of the game. The Spartan comeback attempt sputtered and was snuffed out soon after their third goal.
Mathison and Podein led the Hilltoppers for the game with one goal and two assists each.

Marshall defenseman Logan Hensler was absent for Sunday's championship game but was chosen Most Valuable Player after leading the tournament in scoring without playing every game. Hensler's play from the blue line was instrumental in Marshall's championship run.
