14U Girls

Lakers 6, Walleye 2

In a game that was closer than the final score indicates, the Lakers pulled away from the Moose with five goals in the second period in a 6-2 win.

After a scoreless first period, Lauren Zawoyski put the Lakers up 1-0 in the second, a short-lived advantage evened by Gretta Pioske of the Walleye. The Lakers scored the game's next four goals after Pioske's tally, with Grace Sadura scoring twice and single goals coming from Kendra Distad and Ava Lindsay.

Grace Erickson pulled the Walleye within three at 5-2 with a goal in the third period, but Aly McPartland scored one final goal for the Lakers to cement the victory.

Moose 1, Green Giants 0 (SO)

The battle between the Green Giants and the Moose is the early leader for "game of the year," as the Saturday afternoon tilt had everything but goals.

Both teams had numerous chances throughout the contest, with odd-man rushes and excellent defensive plays abounding for four periods. The shootout lasted about as long as it could, finally ending after Capri Meyer's goal. Makayla Moran scored in the shootout's second round to give the Moose the initial advantage.

Lauren Larson stopped 40 of 41 shots for the Green Giants, while Shannon Garrity and Brooke Kimel combined to earn the win for the Moose. Garrity stopped all 22 shots she faced, with Kimel making 13 saves.
