2020 Founder's Cup Semifinals

Woodbury 3, Rosemount 1

Sometimes, the luck of the Irish can be a cruel turn-of-phrase.

After dueling evenly with Woodbury, a team that had outscored its first two opponents 17-3, until the final minutes of the third period, Rosemount’s fortunes turned with a scramble in front of its net.

Woodbury’s Thomas Dittrich knocked in a loose puck to put the Predators ahead 2-1, and Brock Alberts added an insurance goal for a 3-1 final victory and a spot in Sunday’s Founder’s Cup finals.

Cole Simmers kicked off the scoring with a goal less than four minutes into the first period, giving Woodbury a 1-0 advantage that was quickly answered by Rosemount’s Josh Toll. From that point on until Dittrich’s game-winner, the Predators and the Irish engaged in a physical tug-of-war, taking turns chipping the puck out of their respective zones and chasing after wherever it landed.

The game marked a memorable day for Dittrich, who recorded a hat-trick during Woodbury’s 9-3 quarterfinal victory over Roseville.

Shakopee 7, St. Louis Park 6 (OT)

There's never been a game like this at the Founder's Cup.

First, Shakopee went up. Then St. Louis Park went up. Then it was tied. Then it was over, and then all that was left were wide eyes and glowing reports from the people who saw it, describing the game to others in the lobby who had been occupied during the game.

With St. Louis Park understandably fatigued from playing two overtime games already, Shakopee blitzed the Orioles en route to a 5-0 lead after the first period. Cooper Simpson led the charge in the beginning with two goals for the Sabers, while Daylin Cline, Charlie Clements, and Zach Docteur chipped in one goal apiece.

Following a players-only huddle at the far end of the rink, St. Louis Park turned the scoreboard into its own personal fireworks display, riding a hat-trick from Henry Schultz to six straight goals and a 6-5 lead entering the third stanza. In addition to Schultz's burst, Marty Hirte, Junior Podein, and Griffin Krone added goals for the Orioles.

Nursing their one-goal lead, the Orioles repeatedly iced the puck, hoping to limit the amount of scoring chances Shakopee could muster. With eight seconds remaining in regulation, Shakopee converted a power-play opportunity to force overtime, in which Jacob Lee scored on a breakaway to send the Sabers to the finals.

No recap would be complete with mentioning St. Louis Park's goaltender Eli Charney, who turned in some remarkable saves to keep the score tied early in the extra session.

Cole Bumgarner (97) tied the game with 8 seconds remaining to force overtime for Shakopee.
