There may not have been a team riding a better streak heading into the 12UA State Tournament in March. The Hornets had won 35 consecutive games up until that point and had outscored their opponents 235-65 throughout the season. Powering that run through both District 6 and the East Region was forward Whitney Horton, the Hornets' offensive catalyst.

Throughout the season, Horton drew rave reviews from opposing teams and coaches, and her play during the 2019 YHH Danglefest solidified her status as one of the state's top players. She led the 12UA Division in scoring with six goals and eight points and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

With input from tournament officials and coaches from around the state, YHH is pleased to present the Sue Ring-Jarvi Award to Whitney Horton.

The Sue Ring-Jarvi Girls Player of the Year Award is named after one of the pioneering figures in girls and women's hockey in the state's history. The Roseville native organized and played on the first University of Minnesota Women's Hockey Club Team in 1974. Ring-Jarvi, daughter of Jane Ring, another matriarch of the girls' hockey scene in Minnesota, helped form teams in Minneapolis, St Paul, Minnetonka, Hopkins, Burnsville, Mounds View, Bloomington, and Roseville.
