Protocols include pre-registering attendees for events

The Minnesota State High School league updated its 2020-2021 COVID-19 protocols on Oct. 30, including the league's regulations for the upcoming winter sports season.

Indoor attendance capacity at school facilities will be the lesser of two (2) spectators per participant, 25% of the venue's capacity, or 250 attendees. For non-school facilities, the attendance will be the lesser of 25% of the facility's capacity or at 250 attendees.

Among those that most impact spectators, households and spectator groups will need to be social-distanced six (6) feet apart from one another. Spectators must be separated from the competition by 12 feet. If that is not possible, participants (athletes, performers, competitors, student workers, and coaches/advisors) will be counted in the total capacity count.

School districts will require spectators to be pre-registered in advance of the event or activity with name, email, and/or phone number. No walk-ins or impromptu purchases. Spectators wishing to attend the event or activity must attain advanced ticketing through the suggested avenues of on-line, app-based, email, or will call.

Media members will be counted among the 25% or 250 total capacity maximum. Included among the MSHSL media recommendations, a single streaming service with only essential personnel, two radio broadcast stations, and two print media outlets, which shallowing include one (1) writer and one (1) photographer.

There will be no more than one radio broadcast station per school/team, nor more than one print media outlet per school/team.

Coverage preferences will be given to radio broadcast stations that are members of the MSHSL Radio Partners and Community Media Systems, while print media preference will be given to publications with "longstanding coverage of the school and team."
