Hadley Bakker racked up five goals and added a pair of assists as Team Minnesota scored early and often en route to an 11-4 victory over North America to kick off Championship Sunday in Blaine. 

North America raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first eight minutes of the opening period, getting goals from Sarah Johnson, Layla Garofalo, and Makayla Gore. 

Alaina Post opened the scoring for Team Minnesota, and Bakker’s first two goals of the game tied the score heading into period two. From there, Bakker scored twice more in the second period, with supplemental goals coming from Jaycee Chatleain, Gabi Lopez, and Noble. Taylor Hall, Audrey Hackler, and Bakker tallied goals in the final frame, and North America’s Madeline Hansen tacked on one final tally for an 11-4 final. 

Kaia Weiland and Hadley Bakker earned Most Outstanding Goaltender and Most Outstanding Forward, respectively, while North America’s Audrey Davis captured Most Outstanding Defender. 

A five-goal lead withstood a late push from Team Minnesota as East hung on for a 5-2 victory in the 2008 Division championship game. 

Kaylee Mandeville and Emma Cerutti staked ’08 East a 2-0 lead in the first period, with goals from Kylie Amelkovitch, Cassidy Labisser, and Sofia Nardelli coming in the second stanza to extend the lead to 5-0. 

Team Minnesota battled back with goals by Hannah Jones and Maddy Kimbrel, but East’s defense regained its bearings and held off the Team Minnesota charge. 

East defender Ava DeCourcey earned Most Outstanding Defender honors, forward Tina Scalese took home Most Outstanding Forward, and Team Minnesota’s Kayla Swartout was named Most Outstanding Goaltender. 

The 2007 West squad put on a clinic Sunday afternoon, displaying impressive puck movement and executing on virtually every opportunity in a 7-3 win over Team Minnesota. 

Annabella Fanale and Lincoln Brown notched goals for West in the first period, with a tally from Team Minnesota’s Senja Leeper sandwiched between them. Isabel Powers, Ella Johnson, and Fanale extended the West lead to 5-1 entering the third period, where Johnson and Lily Winckler added to the West’s total, bringing it to seven. 

Hanna Olson and Cadence Ellingson notched the final goals for Team Minnesota in the loss, as the girls from the State of Hockey were stymied time and time again by West goaltender Mack Sunderbruch. Sunderbruch finished the game with 24 saves on 26 shots.

Sunderbruch was named Most Outstanding Goaltender for her efforts, while West teammate Megan Healy earned Most Outstanding Forward. Team Minnesota defender Toriana Anderson took home Most Outstanding Defender honors.

Most Outstanding Forward Makayla Moran scored a goal and added three assists to lead Team Minnesota to a 5-3 win over East in the 2006 finals. 

Moran set up Sienna Dufy for a pair of goals in the second period, equally and then erasing East’s 1-0 lead after a McKenna Walsh goal in the first frame. 

The fireworks began in the third period, first with a goal by East’s Lola Reid, then an answer by Moran, then a second score from Walsh. With the score tied 3-3, Team Minnesota’s Ruby Rauk scored with 6:17 to play for a 4-3 lead, then a Hannah Graves shot from the neutral zone found an empty East net for the clincher. 

After making 28 saves and impressing all weekend, East’s Rachel Irving was selected as Most Outstanding Goaltender, while Team Minnesota’s Morgan LaValley was named Most Outstanding Defender. 

The U18 final between Team Minnesota and WestCan put a bow on the first year of the North American Female Elite Showcase, and did so with dramatic aplomb. 

Team Minnesota took a 2-0 lead in the seance period after goals by McKenzie Rich and Marie Moran, an advantage that no one in the building felt was remotely comfortable. 

Megan Goodreau made the score 3-0 midway through the third period, but WestCan ruined the shutout with a goal by Tyra Edl with 6:47 to play, setting the stage for a rowdy final few minutes. After a parade to the penalty box, Team Minnesota escaped with a 3-1 win over their guests from the northland. 

WestCan netminder Hali Lawrence earned the title of Most Outstanding Goaltender after a 28-save performance in the title game. Team Minnesota’s Lila Lanctot won Most Outstanding Defender, and Minnesota Duluth commit Dani Brunette was named Most Outstanding Forward.
