Seven teams at 12A and PeeWee AA to keep an eye on this year

June Semling, Champlin Park-Coon Rapids

12A - And there were seven...

Lucy Solheim, Bemidji

Andover - The tradition of excellence continues in Andover. Coming a goal away from State last year and the addition of some great young talent from the 10A.

Players to watch: Julia Gerdes, Jade Karnowski, Sophia Menne and Taylor Schreifels

Bemidji - One of the best 10A teams two years ago may be even better this year. A deep bench and one of the best goalies in the state spells trouble for the rest of Minnesota.

Players to watch: Cejay Lavalley, Millie Knott, Mali McLean and Bailey Rupp. We hope to see Lucy Solheim return this season from some medical issues for the Jacks.

Champlin Park-Coon Rapids - This team will be one to keep a close eye on. June Semling is the kind of player who rip off three or four goals a game no matter how good the competition is. With a solid defensive corps, the Bluebirds will be tough to beat.

Players to watch: Kylie Aswegan, June Semling and Kennedy Stone

Edina - The defending champs return several skaters from the state tourney run in Stillwater. After one glance at their roster, it's clear the Hornets will be in the hunt.

Players to watch: Callie ArthurAudrey Davis, Emerson Fritz, Madeline Hansen and Lily Horton

Last spring Hadley Bakker (OMG) and Audrey Davis (Edina) embraced skating for Team MN. This winter they will vie for a state title.

Minnetonka - The formula is simple - speed and puck movement. The Skippers have a full roster of speedsters who will be zipping the six-ounce vulcanized rubber all over rinks in Minnesota.

Players to Watch: Tyler Jabs, Delaney Miller, Lucy Rauk

Osseo-Maple Grove - The Leafbirds were deep two years ago at 10A, winning the 2019 Danglefest Invitational. New 12A coach and former Golden Gopher Taylor Wente will be a breath of fresh air, but will it translate to victories?

Players to Watch: Cali Anderson, Hadley Bakker, Madeline Elfstrand and Harper Wieneke

Stillwater - A top-five team two years ago at 10A, the Ponies have a great goaltender (Haley Solnitzsky) and deep roster of talented skaters.

Players to Watch: Olivia Braunshausen, Savanna Cheney, Audrey Hackler and Kaelyn Holmen

A few others: Grand Rapids/Greenway, Roseau,  Wayzata and Woodbury

Audrey Hackler, Stillwater

PeeWee AA - Stairway to Seven

Freddie Schneider, Edina

Edina - Four state titles in the last 10 years gets you on the list every season. Will they be able to defend? Hard to say. This year's Hornets look no different than years past. They are big, have three good lines and have a very high compete level.

Players to Watch: Dylan Donnay, Bode McConnell, Freddie Schneider and Becker Wenkus

Elk River - The Elks had a great group as Squirts in 2019-20. Since a heartbreaking loss in the Squirtacular semifinals, this group of Elks have been pointing to this season with optimism.

Players to Watch: Will Jansen, Graham Karlsen, Carter Milless and Logan Rustad

Minnetonka - We've seen a lot of great Skipper PeeWee AA teams the last 10 years, and this one might be the best. Great forwards, deep defensive corps and a lights out goaltender will make them a fun team to watch all year.

Players to Watch: Gabe Lindholm, Cade Nystrom, Liam Schultz and Max Thompson

Moorhead - If we had a preseason No. 1, the Spuds would be it. There is not one bruise on this potato - a full boat of forwards, strong defense and a group that knows how to win.

Players to Watch: Joey Cullen, Max Cullen, Wyatt Cullen, Maddox Gregoire and Evan Wanner

Cade Nystrom, Minnetonka

Osseo Maple Grove - Another year and another great Leafbird team. Equipped with one of the best players in the state (Sammy Nelson) and a deep set of defenseman, OMG will be hard to stop and hard to score on.

Players to Watch:  Cole Anderson, Wyatt Kuznik, Sammy Nelson and Jaden Roueche

Stillwater - Another deep association will bring a team to the table that will ask for seconds. The Ponies will be big and very skilled. An early win over Woodbury caught our eye, will it catch the eye of others?

Players to Watch: Cody Barrett, Mikey Belde, Jakob Bjornlie and Luca Jarvis

Woodbury - Another great team from the east side. The biggest missing piece for the Predators is coach John Erickson who passed away earlier this month after the team was chosen. These boys will rally and play for John.

Players to Watch: Lance Kohnen, Beckett Shillings, John Whisler and Riley Zupfer

A few others: Andover, Centennial, Hermantown, Lakeville North, Mahtomedi, STMA and White Bear Lake

Sammy Nelson, Osseo Maple Grove
