Hermantown captures its fourth overall Class A state championship with 3-2 win over Warroad.

Hermantown start the yard sale after the final buzzer sounded during Saturday's 3-2 Class A title game win over Warroad.

Class A State Championship

Hermantown 3, Warroad 2

Hermantown's Zam Plante scores the eventual game-winning goal in Saturday's win.

The Star
Kade Kohanski, Hermantown

Fitting in on a forward line with two brothers who are as exceptionally in sync as Zam and Max Plante on the ice would be like trying to horn in on a Sonny and Cher duet, but Kohanski manages to not only fit in, but stand out in his own way. Kohanski tallied a goal and four assists in his three state tournament games, regularly feeding the Plantes creative and timely passes. The best evidence of his connection with his cohorts came on the eventual game-winning goal, where he dropped a perfect pass behind his back for a Zam Plante one-timer.

The Stalwart
Hampton Slykunsky, Warroad

Slukynsky put together one of his best games of the season in the biggest game of the 2021-2022 campaign, stopping 33 of 36 shots against Hermantown. Time and time again, his sprawls and splits denied the high-powered Hawk forwards their desired outcome. Slukynsky and the Warriors took the loss, but the rest of the state has officially been introduced to the kid they call "Hammer."

The Savior
Beau Janzig, Hermantown

Janzig's name doesn't get tossed around among the state's top blueliners in either class, but the 6-foot-2, 200-pound senior captain proved this week that he belongs in that group. His gap control is excellent, and his reach (a natural trait that is sometimes overvalued) is precise and efficient. Off the ice, his leadership in a locker room of hyper-competitive players enabled the Hawks to zero in and execute the task at hand.

The Quote

"The quality of kid that we're putting out, and the quality of player we're putting out, they're going on to next level and (then) they're the captains of their teams, they're leaders of their teams. They are phenomenal human beings."

- Pat Andrews on the Hermantown program

Warroad's Hampton Slukynsky stopped 33 of 36 shots in Saturday's loss to Hermantown. Slukynsky was named to the Class A All-Tournament Team for his efforts.
