The award is annually given to the top girls youth player in the state, and is named after women's hockey pioneer Sue Ring-Jarvi.

Hadley Bakker - Osseo Maple Grove

Player: Hadley Bakker
Team: Osseo-Maple Grove 12A

After viewing Bakker as multiple events this season, it's hard to tell which position she plays. She can line up at center and win draws, wing to fire a shot off a face-off, and even defense, where her skating and puck-handling are on full display.

Bakker's Crimson finished fifth at this year's 12A State Tournament, falling to eventual champion Edina in the quarterfinals before topping Champlin Park/Coon Rapids 5-1, then edging Stillwater 2-1 in overtime to earn the consolation championship.

Bakker tallied four goals and seven points across the Region and State tournaments, and helped the Leafbirds to a 43-6-6 record this season.

Julia Gerdes - Andover

Player: Julia Gerdes
Team: Andover 12A

While Gerdes isn't the biggest player on the ice, it's impossible to miss her.

She's the one calmly carrying the puck up the ice, feeding it to a teammate for a shot off the wing, or leading the breakout with crisp, precise passing. Gerdes can be seen swatting pucks away from opponents with effective poke checks, and is just as comfortable cutting into the slot and rifling a shot past an opposing goaltender.

Gerdes notched seven points in three State Tournament games, leading the Huskies to a third-place finish with a 4-1 win over Bemidji. Gerdes scored two of her four state tourney goals in the third-place game.

Talla Hansen - Wayzata

Player: Talla Hansen
Team: Wayzata 12A

Although Hansen's Trojans did not make the trip to the 12A State Tournament, both she and her team cannot go unmentioned during the postseason.

Hansen and Trojans captured top honors in this year's loaded Danglefest field. The Trojans won four straight games, and Hansen tied for the 12A scoring lead with eight goals and 12 total points. Hansen's production continued into the postseason, as she recorded five goals and seven points during Wayzata's Region tournament.

The Trojans finished their season in the "backdoor" championship game of the 12A East Region, concluding the 2021-2022 campaign with an overall record of 41-8.

Bailey Rupp - Bemidji

Player: Bailey Rupp
Team: Bemidji 12A

The debate will rage for years to come - who had the better performance in the opening round of a state tournament? Is it Alex Bump of Prior Lake High School? Or is it Bailey Rupp of Bemidji's 12A Lumberjacks?

While Bump's performance was broadcast statewide, Rupp's four goals in the Lumberjacks' quarterfinal win over Champlin Park/Coon Rapids may have been the more impressive showing.

After shedding the Bluebirds in that first round, Rupp and the Lumberjacks battled Edina to the brink, scoring three times in the last 4:46 of the third period to force overtime against the Hornets. Eventually, Edina's depth won out, and the Hornets continued their path toward a state title with a 4-3 win. The Lumberjacks would finish fourth after falling to Andover in Sunday's third-place game.

Rupp concluded the Region phase of the postseason with eight goals and 12 points, then added another five scores and eight points in the state tournament. The Lumberjacks ended their season with a record of 44-5-2.

June Semling - Champlin Park/Coon Rapids

Player: June Semling
Team: Champlin Park/Coon Rapids 12A

Semling is a pure goal-scorer in every sense of the platitude, and she's also the last player you'd want to tango with if you invaded her goaltender's space.

A tough customer centering the Champlin Park/Coon Rapids top line, Semling helped guide the Bluebirds to 29 wins this season, including a respectable finish at this year's Danglefest and a 7-1 mark heading into the state tournament. Unfortunately, the Bluebirds ran into a Bemidji buzzsaw and an inspired Osseo-Maple Grove group at the state tournament.

Semling racked up six goals during Region play, and scored two of the Bluebirds' four state tournament goals.
