Former Edina standout Haley Maxwell was originally verbally committed to Ohio State, but switched her commitment to the Tommies.
Gabby Billing
Hometown: Rogers
2021-2022 Team: Dartmouth
A graduate transfer from Dartmouth of the Ivy League, Billing recorded six goals and 14 points last season for the Big Green, bringing her collegiate total to 15 goals and 38 points across three seasons to date.
Before Dartmouth, Billing won nine varsity letters competing in hockey, soccer, and track and field. Billing tallied eight goals and 31 points during her senior season at Breck, including an assist on Sadie Lindsay’s overtime game-winner against Warroad in the Class A State Tournament championship game.
Billing spent her eighth-grade season with the Rogers varsity, registering 16 goals and 38 points before transferring to Breck.
Maria Cooper
Hometown: Eagan
2021-2022 Team: Eagan High School
Cooper was a mainstay in the Eagan lineup for four seasons, appearing in 99 games for the Wildcats and totaling 48 career goals.
The forward blossomed as a senior, racking up 23 goals and 28 points en route to being named the Wildcats’ Most Valuable Player. Her 23 goals represented nearly half of all Wildcat scoring last season (51 total goals).
Molly Grundhoffer
Hometown: Mankato
2021-2022 Team: Shattuck-St. Mary's Prep
A native of Mankato, Grundhoffer took her talents to national powerhouse Shattuck-St. Mary’s for her junior and senior seasons after scoring 58 goals and totaling 90 points in three varsity seasons with Mankato West.
Grundhoffer skated in 100 games for the Sabres in her two seasons in Faribault, notching 18 goals and 39 total points. She helped the Sabres make an appearance in last season’s USA Hockey Girls Tier I 19U national semifinals, falling to eventual national champion Little Caesars.
In 2021, Grundhoffer was invited to the USA Hockey Select National Development Camp.
Kate Haug
Hometown: Roseville
2021-2022 Team: Roseville High School
Haug scored six points as an eighth-grader of the Roseville varsity and steadily progressed, culminating in a senior season with 25 goals and 43 points. Those numbers ranked second and tied for second, respectively, in the Suburban East Conference.
Haug’s stock rose during the offseason with solid performances during Minnesota Hockey’s High Performance process, where she made the Girls 17 Final 54 roster. Earlier in her HP career, Haug was named to the 2020 USA Hockey Select 15 National Camp.
Kate Haug finished second in scoring in the Suburban East Conference last season with 25 goals.
Maggie Malecha
Hometown: Northfield
2021-2022 Team: Northfield High School
Perhaps the most decorated of the incoming Minnesotan crop of Tommies is Malecha.
Malecha was named All-State Honorable Mention last season, the Minnesota Senior Goaltender of the Year, and the Herb Brooks Award winner. The Herb Brooks Award is annually given to the player who “in the opinion of his/her head coach, represents the characteristics, values, and traits Herb Brooks defined,” according to the award’s website.
Malecha led her Northfield Raiders to their first appearance in the Class AA State Tournament since 2016, posting a goals-against-average of 1.66 and a save percentage of .938.
Malecha joins senior and Eden Prairie native Alexa Dobchuk, plus sophomore Saskia Maurer in the Tommies’ goalie rotation.
Haley Maxwell
Hometown: Edina
2021-2022 Team: Edina High School
A one-time Ohio State commit, Maxwell’s flip in St. Thomas’s gain.
Maxwell was the rare four-year varsity player for the juggernaut Edina Hornets, skating in 112 games while tallying seven goals and 46 points on the blueline.
Maxwell won two Class AA state championships in her four years with the Hornets, finishing as state runner-up in 2020 and third in 2022.
Mary Zavoral
Hometown: Edina
2021-2022 Team: Benilde-St. Margaret's
Zavoral was a two-time All-Conference selection during her time with the Benilde-St. Margaret’s varsity, spanning 100 games over four seasons.
The Edina Youth Hockey Association product broke out her sophomore season with the Red Knights, leading the team in goals with 18 and points with 23. Zavoral’s offensive production helped the Red Knights to a 19-8 record and an appearance in the Class AA, Section 6 semifinals.
In her career, Zavoral totaled 52 goals and 80 points for BSM.
Mary Zavoral tallied over 50 goals in her four-year career with Benilde-St. Margaret's.
