St. Thomas and Minnesota Duluth pull off sweeps and Minnesota State wins exhibition contest, while Minnesota and Bemidji State have weekend off.

St. Thomas (2-9) and Lindenwood (0-9)

Thursday - St. Thomas 4,  Lindenwood 1

Friday - St. Thomas 5,  Lindenwood 3

St. Thomas picks up their first win of the season this past Thursday with a 4-1 victory over the Lindenwood University Lions. Lindenwood is a newer Division 1 team, as they moved from the NAIA in the 2012-2013 season. Lindenwood is in the CHA (College Hockey America). Lindenwood has struggled in their move to D1, as their best season since joining Division 1 was a 10-20 record during the '17-'18 season.

In game one of the series, former Breck standout Gabby Billing provided a spark for the Tommies, scoring the game's opening goal to make it 1-0 early in the first period. Anna Solheim (Mounds View) and Haley Maxwell (Edina) had assists on the first goal for the Tommies. The Lions storm back and notch a goal with 8:58 left in the first period. St. Thomas would go on to score three unanswered goals to win the game 4-1. Maija Almich (Centennial) the second goal for the Tommies, while Maddy Clough (Andover) netted the final tally to secure a 4-1 win. Billing ended the game with one goal and two assists.

Game two for the Tommies featured more of the same offensive success. The Tommies completed the sweep with a 5-3 victory, scoring three times in the second half of the game to pull away from the Lions. Goals from Maddie Jurgensen (Andover) and Maija Almich (Centennial) ultimately propelled the Tommies to victory. The wins in Missouri halt a seven-game losing streak for the Tommies.

Next up: The Tommies have a home-and-home series with Mankato State this Saturday and Sunday

Maija Almich scored two goals for St. Thomas over the weekend.

Minnesota Duluth (8-5) and St. Cloud State (7-7)

Friday - (7) Minnesota Duluth 2 , St. Cloud State 0

Saturday- (7) Minnesota Duluth 5, St. Cloud State 1

Minnesota Duluth swept upstart St. Cloud State on the road over the weekend, defeating the Huskies 2-0 and 5-1 after SCSU knocked off No. 1 Minnesota last week.

In game one, the Bulldogs' defense only allowed 14 shots, aiding goaltender Emma Soderberg in a 14-save shutout. Both Bulldog goals came in the first period, scored by Clara Van Wieren and Anneke Linser (Centennial).

Game two was more of the same for the Bulldogs defensively, allowing just one shot on goal during the first period. Maggie Flaherty (Lakeville North) scored the first and fifth goals in UMD's 5-1 win, with Naomi Rogge (Eden Prairie), Mannon McMahon (Maple Grove), and Ashton Bell adding single scores.

Next up: Minnesota Duluth has a home series vs. Harvard this weekend. St. Cloud State has this weekend off.

Minnesota Duluth's Maggie Flaherty scored twice in the Bulldogs' 5-1 win over St. Cloud State on Saturday.

Minnesota State (5-7)

Monday - Minnesota State 7, University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire 1

The Mavericks had the weekend off from regular season games, but they still played an exhibition game on Monday against Division III UW-Eau Claire. Sydney Langseth (Ede Prairie) had a standout performance in the exhibition win, scoring twice and adding an assist.

Outside the exhibition victory, the Mavericks are on a current three-game winning streak. The Mavericks have a home and home with St. Thomas this weekend and look to stay on a hot streak.

Next up: The Mavericks have a home-and-home series with UST this Saturday and Sunday

Sydney Langseth scored two goals and totaled three points in the Mavericks' 7-1 exhibition victory over UW-Eau Claire.

No. 1 University of Minnesota (9-1-1)

The Gophers had the past weekend off after falling to St. Cloud State during the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame game last week. The extra rest comes at a critical time, as Minnesota will travel to No. 3 Wisconsin this weekend.

Bemidji State (3-10)

Bemidji State also had the past weekend off, regrouping while on a three-game losing streak. The Beavers are currently 3-10 on the season and look to change their season trajectory against Ohio State this weekend.
