Goaltending greatness galore for Minnesota and St. Thomas, Minnesota State drops two to Wisconsin.

Minnesota (14-3-2) and St. Cloud State (11-10-0)

Friday - Minnesota 6, St. Cloud State 0
Saturday- Minnesota 9, St. Cloud State 0

It was a dominant past weekend for Minnesota in women's hockey, as the Golden Gophers swept the Huskies of St. Cloud State.

In game one of this series, it was Grace Zumwinkle who had a significant game with three goals and one assist. Golden Gopher goalie Skylar Vetter had a 14-save shutout in game one as well. St. Cloud State already beat Minnesota once in the season; this win shows major improvement over the season for the Golden Gophers.

In game two, the Golden Gophers dominated the Huskies again with an offensive explosion, and the Gophers held the Huskies without scoring. This game was played in St. Cloud, so this was a really impressive showing by the Gophers on the road.

Taylor Heise had a massive night for the Gophers, registering three goals and dishing out two assists. Skylar Vetter earned her second shutout in a row, recording 15 saves in game two of this series. The Gophers dominated this series and showed just how dangerous they can be offensively.

Neither team plays again until after the New Year, with college finals in the next couple of weeks.

Minnesota Duluth (13-6-1) and St. Thomas (3-14-1)

Friday - Minnesota Duluth 8, St. Thomas 1
Saturday - St. Thomas 1, Minnesota Duluth 1 (Shootout win - UST)

Minnesota-Duluth started this series off with a bang, as the Bulldogs lit the lamp three times in the first period. The Bulldogs then continued that in the second period, adding three more goals. Minnesota-Duluth went on to win this game 8-1 and outshot the Tommies 48-13 in game one of this series. The most impactful player for the Bulldogs in this first game was Ashton Bell, who scored two goals and had two assists to go with them.

The second game was a completely different script, as the Bulldogs struggled to score; they had 48 shots on goal and only scored one goal. Minnesota-Duluth was up late in the third period until Tommie freshman defender Hailey Maxwell scored the game-tying goal with about six minutes left in regulation. Sophomore Tommie goaltender Saskia Maurer stood on her head between the pipes, saving 47 of 48 shots on goal.

St. Thomas has a home-and-home series with Bemidji State this upcoming weekend.

Minnesota-Duluth gets a few weeks off with finals and holidays coming up.

Friday - Wisconsin 5, Minnesota State 2
Saturday - Wisconsin 5, Minnesota State 1

This past weekend was tough sledding for the Mavericks, as they faced a two-loss national power in the Wisconsin Badgers.

In game one of this series, the Badgers struck first early in the first period with a goal from Jesse Compher. The Mavericks struck back to tie the game up at 1-1 in the middle of the first period with a goal from Alexis Paddington. The Badgers had a dominant second period, scoring two goals and holding the Mavericks at bay. The third period starts, and the Mavericks get an early goal by Taylor Otremba to make it a 3-2 game. The Badgers would tack on two more goals to win the game 5-2. This contest was closer than the score shows, as it was a one-score game early in the second period.

The Saturday game started similarly, as the Badgers lit the lamp early in the first period. Madison Mashuga scored the next goal for the Mavericks to tie the game at 1-1. Unfortunately, that first-period tally would be Minnesota State's only goal for the rest of the game. The Badgers would score four more goals the rest of the way to defeat the Mavericks 5-1.

Captain Britta Curl currently leads Wisconsin in goals with 13 through 18 games.
