Commentary

Moorhead takes another trophy home to the crowded trophy case at the Cullen Hockey Center after earning top honors at the ultra-competitive Buffalo Wild Wings Shootout in Grand Forks, N.D.

Rochester stands at No. 5 after not playing last week, followed by a pair of north metro squads in Rogers at No. 6 and eighth-ranked Andover. Hermantown comes in at No. 7 this week, sandwiched between the Royals and Huskies.

Bantam A

Hibbing blanked Edina 6-0 in the finals of last weekend's Edina Invitational.

Commentary

Hibbing/Chisholm is the biggest mover this week in Bantam A. The Bluejackets had a great past couple of weeks, where they beat previously ranked No. 6 Edina, No. 8 Osseo/Maple Grove, and No. 10 Hopkins, to win the Edina tournament. The Bluejackets are ranked No. 2 in the first update of 2023. Edina is up two spots this week, as the Hornets finished third place in the Edina tournament. Rochester (Black) is welcomed into the rankings at No. 10 as the Mustangs are on a 10-game win streak.

Bantam B

Top-ranked Armstrong/Cooper won seven straight games last week.

8 Brainerd 15 WW
9 Dodge County (Black) 9 WW
10 Lakeville South 8 WWW

Commentary

The District 6 playoffs will be very entertaining, as the district holds four out of the top five teams. Armstrong Cooper is the new No. 1, as the Wings add to their strong resume by beating previous No. 1 Edina White and No. 2 Bloomington Jefferson and winning the Carter Weber Memorial tournament.  Edina Green swarms up a spot this week after winning their home holiday tournament. Since the last rankings, previous No. 1 Edina White and No. 2 Bloomington Jefferson have faced off, resulting in a 3-3 tie. Brainerd, Dodge County Black, and Lakeville South are all new this week.

PeeWee AA

Mahtomedi eased past White Bear Lake 7-3 in the Edina Invitational championship over the weekend.

2 Woodbury 8 W
3 Mahtomedi 2 WWWWWW
4 White Bear Lake 2 TWWWL

7 Hermantown 11 WW
8 Edina 6 WLTL
9 Stillwater 2 WL
10 Eden Prairie 6 WW

Top-ranked Moorhead and No. 2 Woodbury act as a brick wall to start the new year, blocking Mahtomedi from cracking the top-two even after winning six games last week. The Zephyrs earned the top prize at last weekend's Edina Invitational, avenging a Lumberjack Cup loss to White Bear Lake by beating the Bears 7-3 in Sunday's championship game.

As of this week, District 6 and District 2 are make up 60% of the ranking, placing six teams among the Peewee AA top-10.

Commentary

Due to the light week schedule around the holidays this year for Peewee A, no movement in the top ten is the result. The top 10 teams that lost last week had their losses come against PWAA squads.

PeeWee B

Jack Harris and the Blaine Bengals finished second at the West Fargo Classic, moving up three slots in the rankings as a result.

8 Prior Lake (Navy) 6 WWWWWW
9 Litchfield/Dassel/Cokato (Navy) 5 W
10 Lakeville North 8 TLWWWW

Commentary

Blaine jumped up three spots in this week's rankings as the Bengals finished second with a strong showing at the West Fargo Classic, as well as beating previous No. 3 Bemidji Blue. Osseo/Maple Grove (Black) is at number four this week; they stunned previous No. 2 Woodbury Black in overtime last week. Prior Lake is on a nine-game winning streak, while the Lakers are ranked eighth.

Edina slides into the No. 2 spot after edging new No. 3 Chaska/Chanhassen last week. Woodbury remains the top team, spared from competition over the last week.

District 10 gets some love this week, placing two teams in the top-10 in No. 5 Blaine and No. 6 Andover. The north metro powers will square off on Jan. 7 in their second meeting of the regular season.

Edina gets moved into the top five this week, and the Hornets are buzzing with a current six-game win streak. No. 5 Rochester Silver is another team that is trending upward: the Mustangs are the best team in Southern Minnesota.
