Black Bracket Final
Moorhead 6, Grand Forks 2

In the end, No. 1 overall seed Moorhead did what the No. 1 overall seed is supposed to do - win. But it came at a price the Spuds aren't used to paying.

Down three key contributors, the Grand Forks Aviators scratched, clawed, thumped, and pounded their way to giving Moorhead one of its most challenging games of the season, trailing the Spuds only 3-2 entering the third period.

First, Joey Cullen, Owen Wright, and Owen Kraft gave the Spuds a 3-0 lead after the first period, when all appeared normal in Moorhead's world of dominance.

But the Aviators would not be grounded so quickly.

Through sheer will and competitiveness, Grand Forks scored twice in the second, getting goals from Body Leddige and All-Tournament Team selection Nolan Marto to send the game into the final period nearly deadlocked.

Up by one, Cam Coulter, John Gramer, and Henry Buttweiler each scored once in the third to make the score 6-2, pulling away from the exhausted Aviators.

The win marks the fourth consecutive Blue Ox Bantam AA championship for the Moorhead program.

Blue Bracket Final
Stillwater 3, Lakeville North 2 (OT)

According to Luka Vanek, the face-off in the Lakeville North zone late in overtime was possible due to a healthy dose of luck, but watching the replay, one could assume the Ponies knew precisely what they were doing on that draw.

Jonah Johnston won the face-off to himself, then shoveled a perfect pass to a waiting Vanek in the slot, all alone, who buried the overtime game-winner to clinch the Blue Bracket for the Ponies.

Samuel Bennett drew first blood for the Panthers in the second period, giving Lakeville North a 1-0 lead that was erased nine minutes later by a spectacular goal by Stillwater's Jakob Bjornlie.

Johnston put Stillwater ahead 2-1 34 seconds into the third period. Still, Lakeville North applied constant pressure throughout the period, and Max Thompson punched in the tying goal with just over six minutes to play and force overtime.

The Ponies and Panthers played the overtime session at a breakneck pace before Vanek's game-winner, which spoiled a 37-save performance by Lakeville North's David Isaacson, who was certainly in the running for Player of the Game honors had the Panthers pulled off the win.

White Bracket Final
Mahtomedi 5, Wayzata 1

Goaltender Brandon Wright pulled double-duty on Sunday for Mahtomedi, stopping 25 of 26 shots and adding an assist in the 5-1 win.

James Lavigne started the scoring for the Zephyrs on a rebound in the first period. Then Ryker Dunbar and Max Boe chipped in goals during the second period to send the game into its final stanza, with Mahtomedi leading the Trojans 3-0.

Dunbar scored his second of the game on an outstanding wrist shot that beat Wazyata goaltender Ben Matack high to extend the Zephyr lead to 4-0, but Jack Peterson answered the bell for the Trojans with his second goal of the tournament. Unfortunately for Wayzata, the momentum died a few minutes later when Koen Veenis backhanded a loose puck in the Trojan crease to ice the game.

With his two goals, Ryker Dunbar was named Player of the Game and brought his scoring total to four goals and five points to lead the Zephyrs for the tournament.

Bantam A

2024 Blue Ox Bantam A champions, the Edina Hornets.

Edina scores in bunches to down Moorhead

The Hornets used a three-goal barrage in the final 10 minutes of the second period to take a 5-3 lead and never looked back on Sunday, polishing off the host Moorhead Spuds 8-5 to capture the Blue Ox's Bantam A championship for the second time in three years.

Goals by Isaac Leiseth and Nolan Monshaugen gave Moorhead a 2-1 lead after the first period, and after an Owen Ouska goal early in the second for Edina, Moorhead's Landen Gurskis scored to put the Spuds ahead again 3-2.

Down 3-2, Edina's Camden Hester and Elliott Trottier scored 19 seconds apart, both on the power play, and the race was on for the Hornets. Oliver Baker scored three minutes after Trottier, then added another goal in the third period. Hester also scored his second of the game in the third, and Brayden Levy potted his first of the tournament to help the Hornets reach eight.

Nolan Monshaugen led Moorhead with two goals and an assist in the loss, while Landen Gurskis also finished with multiple points with a goal and an assist.
