Peewee B Championship

Grand Rapids 3, White Bear Lake 2

2024 Lumberjack Cup Peewee B champions, the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks.

While the Lumberjack Cup's championship games were played in Stillwater without a Pony squad in sight, Sunday's Peewee B finale at the St. Croix Valley Recreation Center felt like a battle on enemy ice for Grand Rapids.

The Thunderhawks likely haven't slept well since hitting the road, but 300 miles from home, Grand Rapids put any doubt about its Peewee B's to rest.

Luke Carlson, Lewis Dick, and Wyatt Scott each scored once for the Thunderhawks, with Scott's eventual game-winning goal coming with 6:52 to play in regulation. Grand Rapids also held the talented Bears to a 0-4 mark on the power play in the win.

Tournament MVP Nolan Berg stopped 25 of 27 shots in the title game.

Peewee A Championship

Chaska/Chanhassen 5, Minnetonka 1

2024 Lumberjack Cup Peewee A champions, the Chaska/Chanhassen Stormhawks.

In the best scenario, a tournament championship should be a close game between top teams that comes down to the final play or two.

While Minnetonka and Chaska/Chanhassen certainly fit the billing of premier squads, Sunday's Peewee A title game only managed to stay close until the final eight minutes of regulation.

Knotted at 1-1 entering the game's final stretch, the Stormhawks poured four goals into the Minnetonka net, including an empty-netter by Freddy Krzmarzick to ice the contest with 19 seconds left. Mason McKone scored twice for the Chaska/Chanhassen, while William Swarthout and Easton Nichols each scored once.

Xavier Stockman scored the lone goal of the loss for the Skippers.

With two goals and a tourney-high 10 points, Chaska/Chanhassen’s Brady Brandt was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Peewee AA Championship

Osseo-Maple Grove 6, Andover 2

2024 Lumberjack Cup Peewee AA champions, the Osseo-Maple Grove Leafbirds.

At this point, Osseo-Maple Grove’s Brayden may be running out of room for All-Tournament Team hats and Most Valuable Player plaques.

Dean scored two goals and added three assists to lead the Leafbirds to a 6-2 win over Andover in Sunday’s Peewee AA championship and picked up his second YHH tournament MVP award in the process. Wesley Grossman tallied a hat trick in the win, and Griffin Brooks scored a single goal for OMG.

Wyatt Hargadine and Rylan LaFlamme each scored once in the loss for Andover.

Bantam A Championship

Cottage Grove 2, Mankato 1

2024 Lumberjack Cup Bantam A champions, the Cottage Grove Wolfpack.

In a game that lived up to the defense hype, Cottage Grove edged Mankato 2-1, thanks to two goals from tourney MVP Graham Schumacher and 19 saves from Ryan Janaszak.

Schumacher opened the scoring midway through the first period, beating All-Tournament Team pick Blake Brekke with a rifle-level shot. Mankato’s Mason Burgess knocked in a loose puck on a power play with 26 seconds left in the opening period to tie the game at 1-1.

After a scoreless second, the game seemed headed for overtime, with both teams trading penalties and near-misses. However, Schumacher netted his second goal of the game on the power play, threading a shot through traffic and past Brekke with 12 seconds remaining in regulation for the game-winner.
