Pyper Andrews, Andover
1. Centennial/Spring Lake Park (12-0)
Centennial/Spring Lake Park stays No. 1 after routine wins over Osseo/Park Center and Wayzata. The Cougars have not allowed more than one goal in a game in over a month, dating back to November 23. Among those wins were four shutouts.
2. Minnetonka (11-1-1)
The Skippers outscored Prior Lake and former No. 10-2A Champlin Park/Coon Rapids by a combined 15-3 to extend their winning streak to eight games. Holy Family awaits the Skippers in the opening round of the Walser Tourney in Edina after Christmas.
3. Edina (9-2)
The Hornets held off a late charge from Holy Family to pick up a 4-2 win. Coupled with Hill-Murray’s loss to Andover, Edina bumps up to No. 3 this week.
4. Andover (8-4)
Are the Huskies…back? Did they ever leave? Do you ever let the microwave ding? Do you eat shredded cheese out of the bag as God intended?
Andover thumped previous No. 2-2A Hill-Murray 5-2 last week for its second win since the last set of rankings. The Huskies went down 2-0 to the Pioneers before pumping in five goals for the win.
5. Benilde-St. Margaret’s (9-1-1)
The Red Knights slipped past Wayzata 3-2, then shelled Waconia 14-0 to pick up two wins last week. Katie Zakrajsheck totaled five points in the win, while Kendall Hassler and Campbell Rucinski recorded four points each.
6. Hill-Murray (9-2)
The loss to Andover stings, but Hill-Murray is still a premier team in Class AA. The Pioneers will take on top-ranked Centennial/Spring Lake Park, Orono, and Benilde-St. Margaret’s in BSM’s Silverback Shootout after Christmas.
7. Holy Family (10-3)
The Fire bounced back from the loss to Edina with a 3-0 win over Proctor/Hermantown. Depending on how the Walser bracket shakes out, the Fire could face as many as seven consecutive ranked teams.
8. Moorhead (9-3-1)
The Spuds trounced Brainerd/Little Falls 8-1, then edged Warroad 4-3 while holding the Warriors to single-digit shots on goal in periods two and three. Like Holy Family, Edina, and Minnetonka, the Spuds will partake in the Walser Tourney.
9. Roseau (10-3)
A five-goal second period powered the Rams to a 6-2 win over Section 8-2A rival Bemidji last week. The big three of Payton Remick, Jasmine Hovda, and Lily Erickson have now all reached the 20-point mark this season.
10. Maple Grove (8-4-1)
The Crimson moved back into the top 10 after beating ranked Class 1A team Mound Westonka/Southwest Christian last week in addition to a 2-1 win over Rogers. Five players have totaled 10 or more points so far for the Crimson.
Bella Prosser, Maple Grove
Ida Huber, Dodge County
1. Dodge County (9-1-1)
With the 2-1 win over No. 4-1A Orono and Warroad’s loss to Moorhead, Dodge County moves back to No. 1 this week. Goaltender Ida Huber stopped 36 of 37 shots in the win over the Spartans, and the Wildcats are averaging fewer than one goal per game this season (0.9).
2. Holy Angels (9-2-1)
Holy Angels recorded a methodical win over Crookston last week, converting on three power plays en route to a 4-1 victory. The Stars will take on Blaine in their first game of Breck’s Crosstown Cup this week.
3. Warroad (7-3)
A late charge falls short against Moorhead, but the Warriors are intentional with their schedule and will likely learn more from losses than wins. The penalty kill unit is one of the state’s best, coming into the holiday break with a success rate of 96%. After Christmas, the Warriors will host Crookston, Albert Lea, and Mound Westonka/Southwest Christian.
4. Orono (8-3-2)
The Spartans lost on the road to Dodge County 2-1 last week and remain ranked fourth thanks in part to the teams below them also losing. Orono will now play in the Silverback Shootout at Benilde-St. Margaret’s this week.
5. Proctor/Hermantown (11-4)
The Mirage snuck past Cloquet-Esko-Carlton 2-1, then was shut out by Holy Family 3-0. The Mirage will now face a long break between games, not retaking the ice in game action until Jan. 2, a rematch with C-E-C.
6. Breck (8-3)
An upset win over Mound Westonka/Southwest Christian gives the Mustangs six wins in their last seven games since back-to-back losses to Dodge County and Orono. Breck will host the Crosstown Cup this week.
7. Blake (7-4)
The Bears shut out Western Wisconsin 4-0 in their lone game of the week. Goaltender Janie McGawn posted 18 saves in the win for her sixth blank sheet of the season.
8. Mound Westonka/Southwest Christian (7-5)
The Whitehawks defeated Delano/Rockford 2-1 before suffering consecutive losses to Maple Grove and Breck. MWSWC is 3-4 in its last seven games and will head to Warroad for the Hockeytown Holiday Classic for a chance to right the ship.
9. Marshall (14-0-1)
The Tigers inch ever closer to the 23-game unbeaten streak after beating Eden Prairie and tying Minnesota River. With 26 goals and 52 points, Tiger forward Brooklyn Mauch is the first player in the state to reach 50 points this season.
10. Albert Lea (9-1-1)
Albert Lea took a 2-0 lead in the first period of the highly-anticipated rematch against Northfield before the Raiders scored twice to force a tie. The Albert Lea power play unit was unusually quiet in this game, going 0-6.
