From Moorhead to Le Sueur, here are this week's top GHS matchups.

January 30
Proctor/Hermantown at North Shore - 7:00 PM

The Mirage make their way up to Mars Lakeview Arena to face North Shore in an intriguing game with some seeding ramifications for Section 7A.  

Proctor/Hermantown is coming off a 1-0 victory over Mound Westonka/Southwest Christian, and the Mirage has won four out of their last five games. Mirage seniors Jane Eckstrom (18 goals, 9 assists, 27 points), Ella Rothe (7-6-13), Reese Knight (7-6-13), and Riah Ward (3-5-8) as well as juniors Mya Gunderson (8-13-21) and Mylie Chesley (4-7-11) lead a young forward group which includes talented freshman Ella Kaups (7-10-17) giving Mirage quality scoring depth. 

On defense, juniors Cambriia Thomas (2-7-9) and Rylee Kalkbrener (1-9-10) as well as sophomores Avery Milbridge (4-8-12) and Elise Eckstrom (0-6-6) as well as freshman Taylee Manion (3-6-9) have shown steady improvement throughout the season.  

At goaltender, Proctor/Hermantown has leaned on senior Neelah McLeod (1.98 goals against average) and given some opportunities to juniors Lillian Clemons (.923 save percentage) and Suri Langley (.957 save percentage) this season.  

North Shore is coming off a 7-4 victory over Pine City Area, and the Storm are riding a 7-game win streak. They are led at forward by senior Nina Thorson (31-27-58) and sophomores Berkley Hoff (25-23-48), Reese Costley (8-13-21), Reagon Hogenson (7-12-19) and Hayden Bright (5-10-15) carry most of the scoring for the Storm who are averaging a little under four goals per game.

Senior Addison Bentler (0-5-5), junior Sarah Stauber (10-33-43), sophomores Stella Lapointe (0-6-6) and Guilia McGiffert (2-9-11) form the core of the Storm's defense and do a decent job of limiting opposing scoring chances.

At goaltender, senior Alexa Harrison (1.78 goals against average) has carried most of the workload this season for the Storm, but they have utilized sophomore Michaela Lindgren (1.44 goals against average) and freshman Emmy Bentler (1.84 goals against average) this season.


Avery Milbridge, Proctor/Hermantown

January 30
Hill-Murray at Holy Angels - 7:00 PM

The Pioneers travel to Richfield Ice Arena to face the Stars of Holy Angels in an intriguing matchup of metro area private schools. 

Hill-Murray is coming off a 2-1 victory over Holy Family, and the Pioneers have won five out of their last six games. Hill-Murray is led at forward by a talented trio of sophomores Jaycee Chatelain (17-24-41), Emily Pohl (23-22-45), and Elliana Engelhardt (15-20-35) who carry most of the scoring for the Pioneers. Senior Ella Hornung (Hamline commit, 9-5-14) provides experience and leadership in addition to offense. Freshman Gwynn Skoogman (7-13-20) and 8th-grader Anna Pohl (3-9-12) play more assertively each game. 

On defense, seniors Josie Skoogman (3-11-14) and Kasey Senden (4-15-19), along with sophomore Addy McLay (1-6-7) and freshmen Olivia Braunshausen (0-9-9) and Jahnica Holtzleicer (0-9-9) give the Pioneers are mobile, skilled and help the Pioneers transition quickly from defense to offense.

At goaltender, the Pioneers have split starts between junior Charlotte Oscarson (2.17 goals against average) and 8th-grader Piper Tam (1.70 goals against average) this season.  

Holy Angels is coming off a 6-2 victory over Chaska/Chanhassen. Seniors Masyn Mullin (16-13-29) and Calli Holmes (7-2-9) lead a young, but talented group of Stars' forwards. Sophomores Avery Mullin (4-13-17) and Sailor Cate Schlener (3-5-8), as well as freshman Geni Nelson (9-17-26), have been significant offensive contributors for the Stars this season.  

Senior Taylor Lesnar (15-16-31), as well as juniors Harper Poehling (12-16-28) and Riley Iverson (7-9-16), provide Holy Angels with quality depth on defense but also contribute a significant amount offensively. Sophomore Julianna Hitchcock (1-5-6) has shown steady improvement each game. 

Holy Angels' penalty kill doesn't give up much, shutting down opposing power plays at a 90.3% rate.   

Senior goaltender Zoe Rimstad (Lindenwood commit, 1.52 goals against average) has carried most of the goaltending duties this season for the Stars, but they have given freshman Marley Severson (4 shutouts) a chance to showcase her talents as well.


Harper Poehling, Holy Angels

January 31
Dodge County at Lakeville South - 7:00 PM

The Wildcats travel up to Lakeville's Hasse Arena to battle the Cougars in an intriguing Class A versus Class AA game. 

Dodge County is coming off a 4-4 tie to Eastview, and the Wildcats have won three out of their last five games. The Wildcats are led at forward by seniors Nora Carstensen (12-25-37), Hannah Peterson (Hamline commit, 9-3-12) and Mollie Koch (3-13-16), sophomores Taryn Wernecke (6-5-11), Bryn Spreiter (7-4-11) and Maysie Koch (11-18-29), freshman Daisy Harens (4-12-16) give Dodge County good scoring depth. 

On defense, senior Claire Dixon (5-2-7), juniors Alexa Van Straaten (3-19-22) and Kylie Meyer (8-8-16), along with sophomores Sophia Buesking (0-5-5) and Adyn Spreiter, bring experience, poise and the ability to contribute at both ends of the ice. Freshman Josie Fulton (0-2-2) is showing steady improvement.

Dodge County's penalty kill stifles opposing power plays at a 91.8% rate.

At goaltender, senior Ida Huber (Long Island commit, .959 save percentage) is one of the state's elite goaltenders. 

Lakeville South is coming off a 2-0 loss to Rosemount and is on a 3-game losing streak. The Cougars' attack is led by seniors Josie Grossman (13-10-23), Emma Swenson (4-5-9) and Camden Hopper (7-5-12), junior Sophia Kuhns (5-11-16), sophomore Maddie Kidwell (4-3-7) and freshman Claire Barrieau (5-6-11) give Lakeville South decent scoring depth.

At defense, senior Grace Buesgens (0-8-8) and Naveah Rubischko (1-0-1), along with juniors Ellie Mittelstadt (0-2-2) and Shannon Hoolihan (1-0-1) as well as skilled puck-moving sophomore Senna Hofman (4-15-19) are a well-balanced group. 

The Cougars' penalty kill has been a source of confidence, shutting down opposing power plays at a 90.3% rate.

Senior Avery Miller (2.63 goals against average) has carried most of the goaltending workload this season, but the Cougars have given opportunities to freshman Snow Banks (2.76 goals against average) as well.   


Maysie Koch, Dodge County

February 1
Marshall at Minnesota River - 12:00 PM 

Rematches can bring out the best and worst in teams, but this one should be a dandy as the Tigers make their way to Le Sueur Arena to face the Minnesota River Bulldogs. The two clubs battled to a 1-1 tie on December 21st. Will we have a winner this time around?

Marshall is coming off a 7-0 rout of South Central, as the Tigers have won five out of their last six games. Marshall is led at forward by seniors Aubree Metheny (8-5-13) and Kendal Beernaert (6-13-19), junior Abbey Foley (12-31-43), sophomore Brooklyn Mauch (43-33-76), as well as freshman Peyton DeMuth (25-18-43) and Elsie Deutz (10-9-19), give the Tigers decent scoring depth. 7th-grader Eme DeMuth (7-6-13) is another star on the rise for the Tigers.

On defense, seniors Mia Wichmann (2-11-13) and Olivia Degroot (3-5-8), along with junior Avery Kesteloot (0-5-5), as well as sophomores Ava Kolander (4-5-9) and Leah Christianson have improved steadily throughout the season.  

At goaltender, sophomore Lily Stelter (1.63 goals against average) has made every start this season for Marshall.

Minnesota River is coming off a 5-2 loss to Luverne, as the Bulldogs have won three out of their last five games. The Bulldogs are led at forward by juniors Macey Portner (14-13-27) and Cristina Cruz (4-6-10), sophomores Noelle Simonette (13-18-31) and McKenna Andresen (18-14-32), as well as freshman Mara Von Bank (11-3-14) carry most of the scoring for Minnesota River.

On defense, juniors Claire Hathaway (5-6-11), Shaylan Dunphy, and Kaylee Gogerty (4-10-14), freshmen Maren Swenson (1-7-8) and Kelcie Weydert (0-3-3) as well as 8th-grader Sophie Tews (1-2-3) play responsibly in Minnesota River's end of the ice which is a big reason why they only give up little more than a goal per game.

Minnesota River's penalty kill doesn't give up much either, killing opposing power plays at a 96.4% rate.

At goaltender, junior Annika Magelee (1.37 goals against average) has started in every game this season for the Bulldogs.  

February 1
Andover at Moorhead - 3:00 PM

This is an intriguing late-season matchup as the Huskies travel along I-94 to Moorhead to face the Spuds in what could very well be a preview of a state tournament game. 

Andover is coming off a 2-1 loss to Hill-Murray, but the Huskies have won five out of their last six games. Seniors Maya Engler (St. Thomas commit, 14-10-24), Hannah Christenson (Northeastern commit, 11-11-22), Amelia McQuay (Bethel commit, 3-6-9), Ella Thoreson (5-4-9) and Hanna Olson (St. Lawrence commit, 11-13-24) leads the way for an experienced Huskies' forward group. 

The Huskies' power play is strong, lighting the lamp at a 34.5% rate.

On defense, seniors Mackenzie Jones (Wisconsin commit, 9-19-28) and Courtney Little (St. Thomas commit, 5-14-19) are one of the best defense pairings in the state. Sophomore Taylor Schreifels (4-13-17), freshmen Molly Clough (0-1-1), and Lena Fenske have steadily improved with each game.  

At goaltender, junior Clairebella Hills (1.10 goals against average) has carried most of the workload this season for the Huskies, but they have utilized sophomore Jade Karnowski (1.25 goals against average) as well. 

Moorhead is coming off a 2-1 loss to Warroad, and the Spuds are riding a three-game losing streak. The Spuds are led up front by seniors Olivia Kortan (15-20-35), Addie Salvevold (6-9-15), and Addison Moos (8-5-13), as well as junior Haylee Melquist (15-13-28) along with sophomores Anna Bjorkman (9-12-21) and Shay Benson (13-11-24).

On defense, the Spuds are led by seniors Anika Stromme (2-8-10), Kendall Lund (0-1-1), and Kellsey Kludt (2-13-15), as well as junior Lucey Wilson (3-16-19), are a source of stability that helps gives Moorhead a lot of confidence their own end of the ice is taken care of.  

At goaltender, senior Taylor Kressin (1.62 goals against average) has carried most of the workload this season, but they have utilized fellow senior Alison Moszer (2 shutouts) as well.
