Game previews for all four of Thursday's Class AA State Tournament quarterfinal matchups.

11:00 AM - (7) Rosemount vs. (2) Centennial/Spring Lake Park

Sophie Stramel, Rosemount

Rosemount isn't a new face in St. Paul, considering this is its third straight appearance at the Class AA tournament. But this time, the Irish made their way to the Xcel Energy Center as the No. 1 seed in Section 3AA with a 21-7 record.

This squad is arguably the most dangerous it has ever been, led by Ms. Hockey finalist Sophie Stramel. The Minnesota State commit has 55 points this season and leads the squad on and off the ice. This Irish team has a lot of heart and certainly won't be an easy out. Make sure to keep an eye on the Rosemount penalty kill, which shuts down its opponents 94% of the time.

Centennial/Spring Lake Park (26-2) comes into the match-up as one of the most ferocious teams in Minnesota. The Cougars are scoring, on average, over five goals per game and have outscored their opponents 150 to 34 this season. The team previously defeated Rosemount, 3-1, back on Nov. 12.

The squad is also led by another Ms. Hockey finalist in forward Teagan Kulenkamp. The St. Thomas commit has 70 points in 2024-25 and is supported by a talented pair of young forwards, Grace Laager and Mia Sutch.

1:00 PM - (6) Andover vs. (3) Hill-Murray

Clairebella Hills, Andover

If you're a fan of girls' hockey in Minnesota, it's no surprise to see Andover back at the state tournament. This is a very different Andover squad compared to years prior, with just a 19-8-1 record in 2024-25.

This Huskies squad is deep, experienced, and senior-heavy. The team is led by defender Mackenzie Jones, a top contender for the Ms. Hockey Award and a future Wisconsin Badger. The team has tons of other talent, with four other Division I committed seniors in Maya Engler, Hanna Olson, Courtney Little, and Hannah Christenson.

On the other hand, Hill-Murray (22-6) is very young but very dangerous. The Pioneers look a little different than they did from last year's Class AA runner-up squad, especially in goal, but you simply can't overlook this team.

The top four scorers for Hill-Murray are all underclassmen. Sophomores Emily Pohl, Jaycee Chatleain, and Elliana Engelhardt, along with freshman Gwynn Skoogman, have dazzled and put up an overwhelming amount of points.

In addition to those four, the Pioneers have three current Division I committed athletes in seniors Regan Berglund, Kasey Senden, and Josie Skoogman, who provide leadership and experience out on the ice to balance things out.

6:00 PM - (8) Farmington vs. (1) Edina

Amelia Goblirsch, Farmington

Farmington has a tough task coming into the 2025 Class AA tournament. The Tigers will have to face off against the No. 1 seed in Edina, who defeated them by a score of 7-0 back on Dec. 12.

This young Farmington squad has an 18-7-3 overall record and is back at state for the first time since 2021. The Tigers are led in scoring by twin sisters Amelia and Jenna Goblirsch, who are just 14 years old, along with fellow freshman Taylor Risch. Combined, the three have scored over 100 points this season. It may be challenging for this roster with only one senior to down reigning state champion Edina, but you can rest assured that they'll give it their all.

The Hornets (23-3-1) are back in St. Paul and are looking to win yet another state title after downing Hill-Murray for the Class AA title in 2024. This team is loaded with talent, including five Division I-committed athletes, and has plenty of depth at each position. The only losses for Edina in 2024-25 have been to Andover and Minnetonka (twice).

8:00 PM - (4) Moorhead vs. (5) Holy Family

Shay Benson, Moorhead

After missing out on last year's state tournament due to a heartbreaker section final loss, Moorhead (20-7-1) is back and ready to make some noise. The Spuds have already defeated Holy Family once this season, 3-2 back on Dec. 27th, and will look to do so again in the Class AA quarterfinals.

One of Moorhead's strengths is in its goaltending. Senior Taylor Kressin has been outstanding, making her a finalist for the 2024 Jori Jones Award. She has a .950 save percentage, a 1.47 goals-against average, and six shutouts, which has helped make the Spuds a top-10 team in the state.

On the other hand, Holy Family will be looking to avenge its loss to Moorhead earlier this season. The Fire are 21-7 and are making their first appearance at the state tournament after pulling off a huge overtime victory over the No. 1 team in the state, Minnetonka, in the Section 2AA championship match.

Holy Family has three Division I committed forwards that lead them in scoring, Minnesota commit Katya Sander on defense, and future Badger Kayla Swartout in net, so it's safe to say that this is a deep roster. The Fire have a little bit of everything needed to make a deep run in the postseason, so watch out.
