In Sophie Stramel’s first season of varsity hockey, the Rosemount Irish posted a 9-8 record and were thumped in the Section 3AA semifinals 5-1 by Eastview.
In Stramel’s final season of varsity hockey, the Irish advanced to their third consecutive Class AA State Tournament and pulled off the biggest upset in tournament history, edging second-seeded Centennial/Spring Lake Park 3-2 after being saddled with the No. 7 seed before the tournament.
For five years, Stramel has been the heart, the soul, and the biggest scoring threat for Rosemount, helping the Irish trade in the label of also-rans for the perennial Section 3AA favorite.
She was one of the Irish’s top-two players in scoring in each of the last four seasons, and finished her five-year career with 84 goals and 203 points. During the 2024-2025 season, Stramel paced the Irish with 29 goals and 58 points.
