Myles Colbeth, Cottage Grove
Pool A
The toughest sledding for Cottage Grove during the Gobbler may have come on the blustery, icy roads between Cottage Grove and Bloomington this weekend. The Wolfpack made quick work of their Pool A foes, topping Eden Prairie 6-2, White Bear Lake 6-1, and Andover 7-0. Kyden Lane paces the Wolfpack with four goals and seven points so far, with Myles Colbeth and Jaxon Ellevold tied for second on the team in scoring with six points each.
Pool B
Mahtomedi is traditionally one of the top teams in the Gobbler, dating back to the tournament’s humble beginnings with shattered trophies and smaller fields. Like their Pool A counterpart, Cottage Grove, Mahtomedi hasn’t faced much of a challenge this weekend. The Zephyrs thumped Blaine 8-1, Lakeville North 7-0, and Edina Green 6-1 en route to winning the pool. Graham Nelson and Owen Sorenson have recorded six points apiece for the Zephyrs, and goaltender Axel Smetana has been impressive, allowing just two goals in three games thus far.
Pool C
Roseville will represent Pool C in the knockout round, as Jackson Campbell scored the game-winning goal with just 1:08 remaining in regulation to help the Raiders pull off the seed-clinching win over Edina White on Saturday morning. Prior to the victory over the Hornets, Roseville defeated Wayzata 3-1 and Rosemount 8-3. Schyler Engle leads the team in scoring with five goals and eight points through three games.
Pool D
After a chaotic end to a thrilling game, Minnetonka emerged from a cloud of dust with a 3-2 win over Mankato, earning the right to face Roseville in Sunday's semifinal round. The Skippers beat Woodbury 4-1 and Rogers 11-2 before the win over Mankato, and are led in scoring by Jack Jewett with five points. Goaltender Jack Bosch stopped 24 shots in the Mankato win and has stopped 40 of 43 shots on goal in two games' worth of action.
Schyle Engle currently leads the Bantam Division in scoring with eight points in three games.
Charles Sink, Edina White
Pool A
Could we be trending toward an Edina vs. Edina championship bout? The first step is complete, as Edina White cruised to a 3-0 record in Pool A of the Gobbler’s Peewee Division. The Hornets have shown guts all weekend, grinding their way to a 4-2 win over White Bear Lake, then blanking Wayzata 3-0 and Blaine 5-0. Charles Sink leads the team in scoring with five points, with Harrison Ballard and Sanford Bennett chipping in with four points each.
Pool B
One Lake Conference team has punched its ticket to the knockout round in Edina White, and another is officially on its way in Minnetonka, which shut out Rogers 3-0 to cement first place in Pool B. The Skippers won back-to-back games on Friday, beating Osseo-Maple Grove 4-1 and edging Woodbury 3-2.
Eight different players have recorded at least one goal for the Skippers, with William DeYoung and Charlie Novogratz leading the way with two goals apiece. Luke Allman leads all Skippers in points with three assists, and goaltender Espen Jacobson has posted a .921 save percentage through three games.
Pool C
Step two has been completed, as Edina Green blanks Lakeville North 5-0 to earn a spot in the Peewee Division semifinals. With Edina White competing in the Pool A vs. Pool B semifinal, we could be on a collision course for a Hornet-on-Hornet battle in the championship. Edina Green tied Mahtomedi 2-2 in its first game of the tournament, then trounced Hermantown 5-1 before the aforementioned shutout of Lakeville North.
Donato Bataglia’s four goals and six points make him the leader on the board, while Joseph Rendahl has three goals and five points. Both Edina Green goaltenders, Nathaniel Dubnyk and Henry Zierke, have combined to stop 39 of 42 shots so far.
Pool D
Adding an outstate flair to the semifinal round, Mankato stomps its way into the playoffs, defeating St. Paul 3-1, Jefferson 4-0, and Eden Prairie 3-1. With five assists, Callan Dorzek leads the team in points, while Mason Gartner and Noah Hobbie have notched three goals each. In typical Mankato fashion, goaltending has been stellar, as Jaxon Nash has stopped 42 of 44 shots for a 0.67 goals-against-average and a .955 save percentage.
