Unbeaten, twice tied, the Chicago Mission U14 (99) Tier I team traveled to Faribault, MN to play the Shattuck Bantam team this past weekend. The Sabres had opened their season earlier with a three game sweep over the Madison Capitals. The Mission (5-0-2) came into the game with a 3-2 win and a 2-2 tie with top ranked Belle Tire in the early season. The Chicago 99ers had a terrific season last year going 61-2-1. They were easily the top ranked 99 Tier I team in the country in 2012-2013. Fifteen of the nineteen Mission players from last years’ 99 team returned to play this year.
Shattuck did not field a 99 team this past season, going with a single U14 team (98/99s) that lost in the USA Hockey U14 Championship game to Honeybaked 3-2 in double overtime. Only two 99ers played for the Sabres on that team returned this year (Julian Detmer/Washington, DC and Logan Hutsko/Pittsburgh, PA).
The two teams played a three game series over the weekend, two games Saturday and one game Sunday. For those who may not know, all Shattuck games are free. There is no charge to attend.
