This year, Green Bay WI, will hold all three USA National Tourneys (U18, U16, and U14) in early April, 2014. Shattuck/St. Mary’s is likely to have an entry in all three tourneys. And from the early results as the hockey season gets rolling, all three Sabre’s teams can win this year.
The Sabre’s prep team (U18) opened play in the Upper Midwest High School Elite League this past weekend going 2-0-1. The Sabres’ Preps beat Team Southwest 5-2, Team Northwest 6-0, and tied Team North 3-3 at the NAHL Showcase. Ryan Lindgren/Lakeville, Collin Saccoman/Stillwater, Ryan Norman/Maplewood, Chase Phelps/Eagan, Larry Jungwirth/Bloomington, Rem Pitlick/Plymouth, Jordan Klehr/Lino Lakes all made the prep team this year. The Sabres’ Saturday game at the NAHL Showcase with Team Northwest was packed with scouts.
Shattuck’s U16 team opened season play against the Thunder Bay Kings Minor Midget team at Shattuck this past weekend. They won all three games in the home series, 8-2, 6-0, and 5-4. Mitch Dolter/Woodbury, Sam Oden/Edina, and Ryan Edquist/Lakeville all made the U16 team.
The Sabres Bantam team (U14) buried the Madison, WI in a three game series last weekend at Shattuck winning 9-1, 6-2, and 8-1. Scott Reedy/Prior Lake, Grant Mishmash/Edina, and Austin Pratt/Lakeville South (all YHH top 50 picks in 2011-2012) are playing for the Shattuck Bantam team.
Besides the U16 team playing this weekend, the Sabres Midget AAA team hosted the Texas Jr Brahams sweeping all three games, 7-0, 14-0 and won the third game leading 2-0 after the first two periods. The Jr Brahams are part of the same organization that fields the NAHL’s Lonestar Brahams team that played in the Showcase last weekend.
