Some fast paced action at Velocity on Friday. A couple of mild surprises and a ton of new kids surfaced to YHH as every team except Mankato drew first blood.
In the first game, Chaska Chan beat neighbor Eden Prairie 19-13. The StormHawks played about as well as a team could play. They never gave EP any easy chances, their goalie Taylor Hanson made several saves that he was suppose to make. But most important, this team was very good at moving the puck. They had several textbook passing plays many of which were goals scored in transition. Ethan Benze had 6 goals and his partner in crime Blaine Warnert tallied five. EP’s Spencer Rudrud got hot late, scoring a hat trick in one shift.
In the second game, the vaunted Green Machine from Edina stepped onto the ice against Roseville. At first glance, the Roseville team had some great looking skaters, some size and an outstanding goalie. Edina’s speed and puck movement was a little too much to handle for the Raiders. But to their credit, they hung in there with Edina the whole game, winning 14-9. The real story of the game was Kyle Roy from Roseville, who made who faced 67 shots and made 53 saves, several of them outstanding.
In game three Minnetonka flexed their muscle doubling up Elk River 30-15. The Skippers were lead by Josh Leudtke (8/2) and Jack Bayless(6/4), each with 10 points. In a mild surprise in game four, the Maple Grove Crimson outscored Rosemount 19-9. The Crimson were lead by the Biggie Brothers Trevor Janicke (7/2) and Trevor Kukkonen (6/0). In the nightcap, Edina showed their power by knocking off Stillwater 43-8.
Edina playing two games with one by a large margin dominated the scoring leader board in decisive fashion:
Liam Malmquist (7-6-13), Jett Jungels (7-6-13),Ben “Waterbug” Brinkman (5-8-13), Grant Silianof (9-3-12), Mason Nevers (6-6-12), and Peter Engelking (8-2-10) all made the top of the list.
Other leaders:
Josh Leudtke – 8-2-10
Jack Bayless – 8-2-10
Trevor Janicke – 7-2-9
Mike Vorlicky, Edina – 7-2-9
