Blake Wheeler’s epic goal versus UND to win the Final Five at the X.

Gophers Win a Big One

A lot of hockey played all over Minnesota…but probably the most watched game was the Minnesota Golden Gophers beating the North Dakota Fighting No Names 5-1.  Go Gophers! Very sad to lose a the greatest rivalry.  Next year the Gophers get Ohio State and the UND gets to play against everyone except the Gophers…a lose-lose for both programs.

Back to the kids.

Roseau PWAA

Pool A – OMG > East Grand Forks (17-1), Brainerd > Lakeville North (3-2), OMG > Lakeville North (6-3), Brainerd > East Grand Forks (11-3). Commentary: OMG vs. Brainerd for final four.

Pool B – Eden Prairie > Moorhead (5-2), Duluth East > Lakeville South (5-2), Lakeville South > Eden Prairie (4-3, OT/SO), and Moorhead > Duluth East (9-7). Commentary: Never heard of a shootout in pool play before?! Duluth East vs. Eden Prairie for final four. This has been a great pool so far.

Pool C – Edina > Hermantown (9-2) and Minnetonka > Warroad (9-1)
Pool D – Stillwater > Roseau (11-3) and Blaine > Chaska/Chan (5-2). Commentary: Blaine and Stillwater are two very improved teams, should be a great game tomorrow.

YHH says: Final Four should be OMG, Duluth East, Edina, and Stillwater. Thanks to Roseau people for getting the scores to YHH all day.

Bloomington Squirt A

Red Pool: Stillwater > Burnsville (4-1) and Eden Prairie > MAML (4-0)
Blue Pool: Prior Lake > Eastview (7-3)

White Pool: Woodbury vs. South St. Paul (1-1) and Chaska/Chan > Jefferson (4-1)

Gold Pool: Rosemount > Wayzata (15-0) and Edina Green vs. LA Jr. Kings (1-1).

Commentary: Slight surprises go to Stillwater over Burnsville and CC over Jefferson.  The Jr. Kings have a super star player that caught the eye of Minnesota fans (story coming).

 Bloomington Squirt B

Blue Pool: Andover (Gold) > Jefferson (6-0) and Prior Lake (Gold) > Lakeville South (3-0)

White Pool: Rosemount > Edina Black (2-0) and Eden Prairie > Forest Lake (5-3)

Commentary: Rosemount with an early statement win over Edina in the White Pool and Andover flexes it’s muscle in the Blue Pool.

A ton more action tomorrow.  Duluth Girls tourney gets started tomorrow in full force at 7:00 am, followed by a full day in Roseau, and a full day of Squirts at BIG.  Oh and Grand Rapids hosts High School Hockey day, the Gophers host UND and the Wild kick off their shortened season against the Avalanche.  If there was Hockey Heaven in Minnesota the only thing missing is Herb Brooks coming back to life!
