The US Junior team beat Canada early this morning 5-1 in the World Junior Championships. A significant win for US Hockey considering the fact that NHL lockout allowed for some of the best Juniors in the World to participate this year.

Waking up at 3:30 this morning was Morgan Wohlers from Stillwater to watch today’s game.  Watching it on replay was not good enough for her.  She wanted to watch it live!  Who says this hockey thing is just for boys?

While not watching the game, Morgan also plays for the number two ranked Stillwater U10A team.  Morgan, a fourth grade first year A player plays with great intensity when she’s on the ice.  YHH saw her play earlier in the season at the Sugar and Spice tournament in Hastings.  Good luck Morgan to you and your team versus number one ranked Forest Lake this Saturday.

The US team lead by South St. Paul native and Stillwater head coach Phil Housley and assistants Burnsville native Mark Osiecki and U of M grad Grant Potulny beat Canada 5-1.  Boston College star Johnny Gaudreau and Wisconsin native Jake McCabe were the offensive stars and John Gibson was a wall for the US stopping 33 of 34 shots he faced.
