A ton of great games this week in Squirt A hockey…two games in particular stand out: Edina White and Edina Green tangle at Braemar Thursday night and Andover travels to Blaine to take on the Bengals at Fogarty Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Edina

Game – Edina White has a loaded first line that is scoring in bunches vs a strong defensive Green team (has allowed under 2 goals a game). YHH predicts a tie. Not due to indecisiveness, but it would be a shame if it took an Edina Squirt A team to break the 2 year undefeated record of Edina Squirt As (if that makes sense). Not since the District 6 Championship game in 2010 (loss to Eden Prairie) has an Edina Squirt A team been defeated. Most in Squirt A circles say that White is the stronger of the two teams. But YHH has picked against Green before and lost. YHH says: 2-2 tie.

Andover vs. Blaine – These two top 10 teams will be playing for more than just D10 bragging rights and a high seed in the year end District 10 tournament, they will be shooting for Top 5 status with a win. Which Blaine team will show up? The team that beat Osseo Maple Grove in the Forest Lake Tournament? Or the team that struggled and lost to Elk River last week? As for Andover, this team is loaded with some of the state’s best players. Some say their only problem is having only one puck on the ice at one time! No matter how much talent or how well coached these teams are, the outcome will come likely come down to a few big plays made by each team’s top players: top players to keep an eye on are Wyatt Kaiser from Andover and Jack Reiman from Blaine. YHH says: 3-2, Andover.

Other games of note (mostly in D10 and D6): Blaine v. St. Francis (12-5), Andover v. Elk River (12-5), Jefferson v. Prior Lake (12-9), and Princeton v. Blaine (12-10)…if you know of another game of note in SQA within the next week, simply send us a note at editor@youthhockeyhub.com.
