Covering youth hockey games can be very exciting.  Sometimes the underdog changes the script and knocks off the favorite, sometimes you see goals scored in ways beyond your imagination, but is what is most fun is seeing a great player for the first time.  Even better, when it is a player you have never heard of.

On Sunday, Kenzie Hauswirth burst onto the youth hockey scene. Well, at least onto YHH's scene. On the first couple of shifts, number 9 made her mark.  She was a Girl amongst Boys. At first we noticed her speed as she streaked past Eden Prairie defenders. And then we noticed her shot as she got a loose puck in front of the net and rifled it in for a goal.

But what we noticed on every shift was her ability to skate with speed out of trouble while carrying the puck. A skill only few possess at the PeeWee level.

Hauswirth was an impressive player to note by midway through the game, but her stock shot through the ceiling when she streaked down the right wing saucer passed a perfect backhand pass to her linemate Marissa Agerter (yes, another Girl amongst Boys) for a highlight reel goal for the Tigers.

Her stat sheet read, 2 goals, 1 assist...MVP of the game and best of all, her team winning the EP Winter Classic on Sunday.

Congrats Kenzie on a great game and welcome to the spotlight, you might need to get use to it.
