Woodbury scores against White Bear Lake on Saturday
Andover
Andover swept the Saturday session, downing Elk River 14-4, Mahtomedi 9-7, and came from behind to edge Moundsview 14-11. The Huskies have proven their depth time and time again, and Sunday will test it one more time. Mitchell Wolfe leads the Huskies with 11 goals and two assists.
Maple Grove
The Crimson outscored their opponents 48-6 on Saturday. The Crimson cruised past Moundsview 29-2, and finished the nightcap with a 19-4 win over Mahtomedi. The Crimson success is its offense, boasting three of the top five scorers in Ethan Elias (19G/6A), Justin Janicke (12G/8A) and Kyle Kukkonen (11G/7A).
Elk River
The Elks responded to Saturday initial 14-4 loss to Andover with a resounding 21-8 win over Moundsview. The Elks use their size well on the smaller ice surface, but must increase their consistency from game to game.
Mahtomedi
The Zephyrs are the kings of close games, losing to Andover 9-7 early on Saturday. The Zephyrs came back from the heartbreaker with a 21-8 win over Moundsview. The Zephyrs rely primarily on spread out scoring, with multiple players chipping in on the scoresheet.
Moundsview
Three losses on Saturday, but with varying degrees of severity. 29-2 to OMG, 14-11 to Andover and 21-8 to Mahtomedi. Even with rare flashes of brilliance, which Moundsview team will show up on Sunday?
Armstrong puts one home on Saturday.
Woodbury
Possibly the most balanced team in the tournament. The Predators beat White Bear Lake 17-9, and then lost to Chaska/Chan 16-14 in Round 2. Max Zupfer (16G/6A) and Connor Nelson (10G/7A) are the key cogs in the Predator machine.
White Bear Lake
Fatigue caught up with the Bears on Saturday. After coming off back-to-back wins over Armstrong (32-8) and Mound Westonka (17-11), the Bears slowed to a 17-9 loss to a very talented Woodbury team. Llayton Roed has proved to be nearly unstoppable, racking up 15 goals and eight assists.
Chaska/Chanhassen
The StormHawks had a great Saturday, beating Mound Westonka 15-13 and Woodbury 16-14. The win over Woodbury asserts the StormHawks as a team to be reckoned with as we enter finale Sunday. Jaden Anderson leads the team with 10 goals.
Mound Westonka
Lost to Chaska/Chan 15-13 in a nail-biter and beat Armstrong 24-3 on Saturday. Luke Roelofs has paced the Whitehawks with 13 goals through two days.
Armstrong
These kids aren’t going anywhere. Despite three losses, the Falcons hit the ice with some serious heart each time. Fell to White Bear Lake 32-8 and Mound Westonka 24-3 on Saturday.
Chaska/Chan scores in 15-13 win over Mound Westonka.
Ethan Elias- Maple Grove
A goal scorer's goal scorer. Mixes skill with tenacity to dominate on the ice.
Max Zupfer-Woodbury
Good size, used effectively. Equally comfortable scoring goals or playing distributor to his teammates.
Wyatt Kaiser-Andover
Defenseman skates like a bull, and is always in the right place at the right time. A gifted player who can jump into the offense with ease.
Blake Polifka-Woodbury
Strong skater with 10 goals through two days. Soft hands and great turn of direction in transition.
Hudson Zinda-Andover
Small stature, big-time scoring ability. Quick skater who plays well in the corners, with excellent stick-handling skills.
Mound Westonka scores, but came up just short in loss to Chaska/Chan.
