Brady Yakesh scores for the Badgers Sunday in their 8-5 win.
The Badgers used a five goal second half surge to over take the Irish and win the Minor PeeWee Challenge Sunday afternoon at Bloomington Ice Garden. We saw several great games this past weekend - but this one provided a little of everything...some great hockey, some great saves and some awesome goals.
But the best highlight came in the second half - when the Badger team put away the fancy moves and fired up the team station wagon delivered five straight hard fought goals in five minutes to cruise past the Irish 8-5. Down 5-2 with 13:38 left, the Badgers kicked in high gear and roared back. Moorhead's Justin Stalboerger scored two of the five, both on pretty top shelf snipes. This kid is a pit bull with serious skill...a hard worker, that skates really well. Speaking of skilled, Brady Yakesh is another kid that is a treat to watch. The right handed shot from Rockford, MN fired a hard wrister home a minute and some change after Stalboerger to cut it to 5-4. From that point on, the momentum was wearing a red jersey. Seven game minutes later, the Badgers had gone from down 5-2 to winning 8-5 going away.
Stalboerger and Yakesh both finished with two goals and an assist, and tourney MVP Tyler Haskins had a goal and an assist, both to Brody Lamb who also added a pair of goals.

F - Tyler Haskins, Badgers (Rochester) - Wiz Wyatt Winner did not disappoint this weekend. At some point in all five games he would completely take over a game. Had ten points to lead the event in scoring, but what is most impressive about his game at such a young age is his ability to know when to pass and when to shoot.
F - Isaac Howard, Irish (Hudson, WI) - lead the event with 10 points on 5G/5A...has breakaway speed and terrific finishing ability around the net.
F - Jackson Blake, Wolverines (Eden Prairie) - a jolt of lightning every time he hits the ice. Quick feet and even quicker hands...finished the weekend with six goals and two assists.
D - Leo Gruba, Wolverines (JCNSP) - great skater that always adds an extra dimension to his team's offense.
D - Ryan Chesley, Gophers (Mahtomedi) - a carbon copy of Gruba...can really jump the play and put pressure on the opponent. At the same time will defend the other team's best player.
G - Marko Belak, Badgers (Woodbury) - showed great composure, challenged shooters all weekend.
