Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) hockey update

#19 Brenden Meyer scores between the legs for #2 Fort Collins against #5 Ralston Valley to help lead the Lambkins to an 11-0 mark in their first season of CHSAA high school hockey.

Colorado High School Recap

A new year in Colorado high school hockey has some familiar scenarios unfolding, as well as some new ones.  The defending Colorado high school state champion Regis Jesuit haven't lost since February of 2016 (their only loss of the season) and find themselves once again atop the standings and polls to start 2017.  The Raiders are ranked #1 in our Colorado Hockey Hub Staff Rankings and stand undefeated at 8-0 with a huge matchup against #5 Ralston Valley next weekend.

The big surprise this season comes out of Fort Collins, where coach Rhett Gordon has his squad at 11-1 and #2 in their first ever year of high school hockey in Colorado.  They recently just lost their first game of the season to #8 Mountain Vista, but the Lambkins are led by three of the top five point scorers in the state.  Loveland's Greg Bilek (10G, 14A) leads all point scorers, while teammates Drew Cronin (10G, 10A) is third in points and Brenden Meyer (14G, 5A) leads all goal scorers.

Cherry Creek comes in at #3 and 7-1 with wins over #5 Ralston Valley, #7 Dakota Ridge, and #9 Resurrection Christian.  The Bruins posses a roster that is dominated by seniors, with their only loss of the season coming to #4 Valor Christian.  The #4 Eagles are coached by former Denver University Head Coach and back to back NCAA National Champion George Gwozdecky.  He currently has Valor at 8-1, with their only loss coming to the defending champions Regis Jesuit. #5 Ralston Valley rounds out our top five with a 5-2 record, with their only loses coming to #3 Cherry Creek and #2 Fort Collins.  The Mustangs will be tested this Friday night in a showdown with #8 Mountain Vista, fresh off their upset of #2 Fort Collins.

Players to Watch

#6 Greg Bilek - Fort Collins Lambkins

Greg is a crafty player with a nose for the puck and an uncanny knack for making the right decision, with the ability to find scoring opportunities for himself or his teammates.  He leads all of Colorado high school point scorers with 10 goals and 14 assists.

#15 Shane Ott - Regis Jesuit Raiders

Shane is one of the best juniors in the state of Colorado who is always around the puck and plays with a gritty attitude.  He leads his defending champion Raiders in goals scored with 12 (which is tied for second in CHSSA) and is tied for the team lead in points with 18.

#19 Brenden Meyers - Fort Collins Lambkins

Fort Collins' Brenden Meyer is a big body with an immense amount of skill.  He is always around the cage and seems to know how to find the back of the net.  He leads all of Colorado (CHSAA) high school hockey in goals scored with 14.
