A once a decade type player wins 3 YHH awards in 4 years

Casey Mittelstadt, Eden Prairie

Middelstadt voted best player, back-to-back

No surprise to anyone, Casey Mittelstadt was chosen by our panel of voters the YHH High School Player of the Year Friday. Mittelstadt leaves high school scoring over 200 points, three trips to the state tournament, two USA Today High School Player of the Year awards, Mr. Hockey and a two-time YHH POTY.

Not one player has had a bigger impact on the the high school game since Mittelstadt's childhood hero Kyle Rau returned to play his senior year. With a camera and microphone in his face the whole way...Mittelstadt took his senior year in stride leading his team to the state tourney.  Despite never reaching his goal of winning the state title, he remained true to himself, his family and his friends the whole way.

He likely will be only player to ever carry away three YHH POTY trophies - which is more of a testament to him. Most players after dominating the Bantam or high school level would have moved on to greener pastures. For Casey, the greenest pasture was staying at home with his biological and hockey family for one more run at the state title. Despite not being in the winner's circle...he won over many hearts, not just in Eden Prairie but the rest of the state.
