Osseo-Maple Grove edged Eden Prairie 2-1 in overtime to claim the Blue Ox championship.

Gold Bracket Final

Osseo-Maple Grove still reigns the nest.

It may have taken overtime, and it may have come after surrendering a lead, but the Leafbirds emerged victorious in the tangle of the talons with a 2-1 win over Eden Prairie in the Gold Bracket finals of the Battle for the Blue Ox.

Chris Kernan tipped in a shot by Henry Nelson from the point that snuck between Eden Prairie goaltender Eli Andrews' five-hole to give the Leafbirds the win, capping a stellar day for Nelson, who scored the first goal of the game that for a time appeared to be all the Leafbirds would need.

Eden Prairie defenseman Luke Mittelstadt knotted the game at 1-1 on a breakaway chance in the third period to force overtime, adding a dynamic flourish to an already dramatic weekend.

The Osseo-Maple Grove trio of Justin Janicke, Brock Faber, and Kyle Kukkonen was dubbed Most Valuable Players.

Black Bracket Final

Chaska-Chanhassen was able to hold off a late charge from Osseo-Maple Grove (BA) and claim the Black Bracket title, relying on a three-goal burst in the middle of the second period.

The Stormhawks tacked on three goals in a span of just 14 seconds, with Jimmy Snuggerud netting two of the tallies at 9:32 and 9:26 of the second frame. Bennett Jax scored the third goal of the period for the Stormhawks with 9:18 remaining, seemingly setting the Stormhawks on pace for a blowout win.

True to form, the Leafbirds (BA) battled back, with A.J. Tollas continuing his strong play with a goal late in the second period to stop the bleeding inflicted by Chaska-Chanhassen's spurt.

Ethan Sillerud would pull the Leafbirds within one goal at 3-2 with a pretty breakaway score, but Stormhawks' goaltender Jack Stark shut down the late barrage from the Leafbirds.

Orange Bracket Final

Deficits mean nothing to the Alexandria Cardinals.

The boys in red and black put on a show in the third period en route to seven goals and a resounding 7-3 win over a talented Woodbury team in the finals of the Orange Bracket to kick off Championship Sunday in Maple Grove.

Woodbury's Dylan Godbout handed his team a 2-0 lead after two periods, a margin that seemed to be larger than just two goals as the Predators owned time of possession.

The Cardinals remained undeterred, however, and began their comeback with goals from Brennan Lattimer and Kaden Johnson to make everything equal at 2-2. Grant Rebrovich would play hero in the next few minutes, scoring twice for Alexandria to give the Cardinals their first lead of the game at 4-2.

Zach Sondreal pulled the Predators within one with a blast from the point with just 1:11 remaining in regulation, but Josiah Gronholz iced the game for the Cardinals with a pair of empty-net goals, and Tyler Petron tacked on a final goal with .01 seconds to play to ice the game for Alexandria.

Christopher Loken makes one of his spectacular saves as Alexandria downed Woodbury 7-3 on Sunday.

Players to Watch

Grant Rebrovich, Alexandria

Rebrovich used his big frame to create space in front of Woodbury's net and slam home a pair of goals to lead the Cardinals to a win in the Orange Bracket final.

Jimmy Snuggerud, Chaska-Chanhassen

Snuggerud's skill is obvious, but his drive and grit helped earn him a pair of goals to lead the Stormhawks to the Black Bracket title.

Henry Nelson, Osseo-Maple Grove

On a loaded team, Nelson stood out in the Gold Bracket final with a goal and an assist to go along with solid physical play.

Drew Holt, Eden Prairie

A true competitor, Holt created numerous scoring chances on his own in the Eagles' overtime loss to Osseo-Maple Grove.
