Red Bracket Final

Despite a never-say-die spirit, Rochester's impressive run to the Founders Cup Red Bracket finals ended with a 5-3 loss to Stillwater.

The Ponies jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Jackson Tweed and Matthew Volkman less than five minutes apart and appeared primed for a rollicking victory before Jaydon Veney pared the lead to 2-1 with a goal for Rochester.

A scoreless second period set the stage for an action-packed third, as the Ponies added three more scores and Rochester added a pair of their own to reach the 5-3 final. Eli Miller, Matthew Whisler, and Jake LaCosse all tallied goals for Stillwater in the third, while Hunter Hady and scored twice in the loss for Rochester.

Black Bracket Final

Osseo-Maple Grove "A" eked out a 3-2 win over Chaska/Chanhassen "A" in the Black Bracket finals on Sunday, the result of dogged play against a multitude of PWAA teams and a testament to the level of talent on both squads.

Keyan Schugel handed Chaska/Chanhassen a 1-0 lead after one period despite being outshot handily, and the pressure eventually paid off for the Leafbirds to the tune of three goals in the second period. Luke Giuliani, Luke Sawicky, and Hunter Tjepkes all scored once in the second for the Leafbirds, with Tjepkes' goal eventually becoming the game-winner.

Ethan Hall scored for the Stormhawks from the blue line midway through the third period, but Osseo-Maple Grove goaltender Jack Roach and the rest of the Leafbirds managed to quell the Stormhawk attack.

White Bracket Final

While offense typically takes center stage for the Luverne Cardinals, in Sunday's White Bracket final, goaltender Tyler Arends stole the spotlight.

Arends made 37 saves to lead his Cardinals to victory, allowing just two goals in the 4-2 win over Shakopee.

The Sabers took a 1-0 lead over small-bench Cardinals on a goal by Ben Turcotte in the first period, to which Luverne's Blaik Bork responded with a goal of his own to tie the game 1-1 after one period.

Henry Hartquist and Bork scored in the second for the Cardinals to extend the lead to 3-1 before Shakopee's Easton Langemo pulled the Sabers within one early in the third period. Arends and the Cardinals shut down the Shakopee comeback attempt, and Elliot Domagala added an insurance goal to cement the win for the Cardinals.
