Team South Takes Five of Eight on First Day

The first day of the 2018 Stars of Tomorrow was claimed by Team South, as the players in the red uniforms captured five wins in eight games on Thursday. 

The largest margin of victory on the initial day of competition was a 10-0 win for Team '08 South over Team '08 West. Highlighting the win was Anden Roy, who scored two goals for South, with Cole Bumgarner racking up three assists in the process. 

Team '09 West edged Team '09 South by a score of 3-1, with Nick Hanson, Luke Hill, and Kyler Larson all nothing one goal in the win. A hat-trick by Matty Hauser propelled Team '07 South, as Cooper Simpson chipping two goals and Daylin Cline and Bryce Wiitala each tallying one goal.

Helping cap the night was August Falloon, who scored a hat-trick to lead Team West '04 to a 5-1 win over Team South, with all three goals coming in the second half. Josh Giuliani had an impressive game of his own, dishing out three assists in the win.  

On the girls' side of the tournament, Avery Achterkirch scored twice to lead Team '05 West to a 6-1 win over Team '05 South, the third game to be decided by a margin of five or more goals on Braemar's South rink. Myah Krueger, Brooke Nelson, Justyce Ohlgren, and Julia Wilson all scored once in the win for Team '05 West.

A two-goal, four-point performance from Matt VanderVort powered Team '05 South to a 6-3 win over Team '05 West, with other goals coming from Sam Scheetz, Drew Stewart, Gracyn Sawchyn, and Javon Moore. 

Kendra Distad scored twice for the girls' Team '06 South in Thursday's 4-0 win over Team '06 West, with Samantha Bogen and Makayla Moran each chipping in a goal.
