Friday's Slate Officially Kicks Off Tournament

Nearly 14 hours since the initial drop of the puck, the second day of the Stars of Tomorrow concludes with a pair of high-scoring contests, a fitting end to a jam-packed day of medium roast and pucks. 

Six teams throughout the nine divisions remain undefeated at 2-0, among them on the boys’ side ’04 West, ’07 South, ’09 West, and ’08 South. ’04 West and ’06 South represent the 2-0 teams on the girls’ side.

Boys Recaps

2004

Two close games highlighted the slate as the only Bantam Minor matchups, with ’04 West slipping past ’04 East by a score of 6-5. ’04 West rattled off three unanswered goals in the second half for the win, paced by two goals and an assist by Gavin O’Connell. ’04 East forward Isaac Howard led all skaters with two goals and four points in the loss. 

’04 South also scored three times in the second half to secure a win over ’04 North, this one by a score of 8-5. Leading the way for ’04 South were Jimmy Snuggerud and Carter Krenke, who scored three and four goals respectively. Ethan Sillerud and Caleb Moore led ’04 with a pair of goals, while Will Schumacher collected a pair of assists. 

2005

’05 East kicked off the Peewee Major schedule with a rollicking come-from-behind win over ’05 South, scoring fives times in the second half to overcome a 4-0 deficit. Oliver Moore led the charge with two goals, while Tyler Gibson, Jake Fisher, and Ty Henricks all scored once in the win. Henricks’ goal tied the game with 3:55 remaining in regulation, as he launched a pinpoint wrist-shot into the upper corner to draw ’05 East even at 4-4. Moore’s game-winner came with 45 seconds to play, with the assist going to Brady Arneson. Beckett Hendrickson and Marcus Fechko each scored twice for ’05 South in the loss, with Hendrickson also picking up two assists in the process. 

Aaron Reierson and Kade Kohanski each scored in the second half to help ’05 North escape with a 4-2 win over ’05 West. Reierson’s game-winner came midway through the second half and was his second of the game. In addition to Kohanski, Joe Gramer also added a goal in the win for ’05 North. Cooper Conway and David Kukkonen each scored once in the loss for ’05 West. 

2006

’06 East flew to a 9-3 win over ’06 South, with ’06 South making it more of a game in the second half by scoring three times after going into the halftime break down 7-0. Brody Dustin racked up three goals and five points, with Jordan Geike, Ray Walen, Tanner Henricks, Hans Hedlund, and Zach Docteur all adding one goal each in the win. Tate Bloch, Adam Kleber, and Joey Kubas all scored once in the loss for ’06 South. 

Michael Mathison scored with 5:36 remaining in regulation to left ’06 North to a 3-2 win over ’06 West, his second in a back-and-forth match. Jacob Garski also scored in the win for ’06 North. Jacob Mattson and Brittan Alstead each scored for ’06 West in the loss. 

2007

’07 South scored four of the game’s final five goals en route to a 5-3 win over ’07 East, with Rowan Vaughn and Cooper Simpson scoring the final two goals of the victory in the second half. Bryce Wiitala, Lucas Sawchyn, and Vaughn all recorded a goal and an assist for ’07 South, with Cole Cheeseman chipping in a goal and Simpson adding a pair of helpers. Finn Zaruba, Gavin McNeil, and Gavin Kor all scoring once for ’07 East. 

Mason Jenson scored twice and added an assist to lead ’07 West to a 7-2 win over ’07 North. Bennett Prokop also scored twice in the win, and Bradyn Burnevik, Henri Ament, and Tommy Picconatto each scored one goal. Luke Avery and Mack Blue scored for ’07 North. 

2008

Cole Bumgarner racked up four points on two goals and two assists to lead ’08 South on Friday, as the team skated to a 7-4 win over ’08 East. Aiden Lavigne also scored twice for ’08 South, while Luke Puchner, Anden Roy, and Teddy Lechner each scored once in the win. Hunter Boeckmann scored twice for ’08 East, with Nate Wilke and Magnus Benz chipping in single goals. 

The day’s only tie game in the 2008 Division, as ’08 North and ’08 West skated to a 3-3 draw on Braemar’s South rink. James Larson, Dominic Debert, and Nathan Garski all scored once for ’08 North, with ’08 West’s goals came from Jay Anderson, Easton Monahan, and Joey Erickson. 

2009

’09 East carried the momentum of a four-goal first half to a 6-3 win over ’09 East, paced by Finn Heithoff’s two goals. Jacob Island, Hank Hughes, Jaden Berhow, and Riley Klava each scored once in the win for ’09 East. Connor DeBoer, Max Dessner, and Gavin Sattler tallied the goals for ’09 South. 

’09 West also got off to a hot start on Friday, scoring six times in the first half in a win over ’09 North by a score of 8-1. Nolan Fitzhenry scored three times to lead the charge, with Carter Milless and Landen Lafferty each adding two goals, and Ryan Marquardt adding a single score.

Girls Recaps

The 2004 Division saw ’04 West jump out to a 2-0 record with a 5-0 win over ’04 South and an identical 5-0 victory over ’04 North. Pacing ’04 West to their wins was Katerine Bell with one goal and four points, tying her for the division lead in total scoring.

Sitting atop the division’s leaders tied with Bell is ’04 North’s Meredith Boettcher, who scored four times on Friday. Both ’04 South and ’04 East finished Friday with records of 1-1, while ’04 North finished the day 0-2.Alex Von Holtum, Maddy Helmstetter, and Marie Moran all tallied two points on the day for ’04 South. Five players recorded a point on Friday for ’04 East. 

’05 North, ’05 East, ’05 South, and ’05 West are all tied atop the 2005 Division, all with identical records of 1-1, shaping this set of teams as maybe the most balanced in the field. ’05 West’s Justice Ohlgren leads all scorers with three goals and five points, followed by Avery Achterkirch and Alexa Hanrahan with four points each. Lily Fetch of ’05 East is also on top with three goals, along with Ohlgren and ’05 South skater Brynn O’Neill. 

’06 South leads the division with a 2-0 mark, having yet to allow a goal thus far. Following ’06 South are ’06 North and ’06 West with records of 1-1, and ’06 East follows with a record of 0-2. Kendra Distad of ’06 South paces all skaters with five goals and seven points through two games, followed by teammates Mikayla Moran and her goal and four total points.
