By its very nature, the position of goaltender comes under more scrutiny than any other. In youth hockey and even high school to some extent, that scrutiny is often based on factors outside of the goaltender’s control. Overall talent disparity, an outsized number of breakaways and the youth level, and suspicious shot counts all play a role in the inexact science of evaluating goaltenders.
This season’s Youth Hockey Goaltender of the Year turned in numerous clutch performances, displayed an abundance of natural athleticism and fundamental skill, and was the undisputed anchor of the team.
Skylar Vetter of the Lakeville North Bantam AA team was selected based on those aforementioned factors and has cemented her status as one of the top goaltenders in her age group. Vetter is verbally committed to Minnesota.
